WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Top Democratic rivals for president tore into each other on Saturday after a conservative columnist asserted front-runner Hillary Clinton claimed to have damaging information about Barack Obama.
The Clinton campaign denied the accusation, saying Obama's reaction to the vaguely worded column by Robert Novak played into Republican hands and showed the Illinois senator's lack of political savvy.
Obama's team later said they took the Clinton campaign at its word but bristled at the idea they fell for Republican tricks and should not have fought back against "smear politics" in the race for the presidency in the November 2008 election.
Clinton, a senator from New York and the wife of former President Bill Clinton, has been the target of frequent attacks by Obama and some of the other Democratic contenders for the White House over her ability to deliver straight answers.
Novak, a syndicated columnist, wrote: "Agents of Sen. Hillary Clinton are spreading the word in Democratic circles that she has scandalous information about her principal opponent for the party's presidential nomination, Sen. Barack Obama, but has decided not to use it."
Novak did not specify the information or give more details about its source.
Obama, a first-term senator seeking to portray himself as an alternative to traditional Washington politics, seized on the article and said Clinton should either come forward with any information she has or repudiate Novak's column.

Hmmmm..I’ve always assumed the ONLY reason the Breck Girl and the ‘BamaBoy had any ability at ALL to run against SheWhoMustNotBeNamed was that they arrived on the political scene AFTER the DynamicDuo left the Executive Branch...and consequently had NO ability to purloin THEIR FBI files......
No. The Clintons are immune from scandal.
Literally ANYTHING the Clintons do - - from stealing and abusing over a thousand classified FBI files to taking sexual advantage of a young intern in the Oval Office to dumping a body in the park - - is laughed off as, "Oh, that's just the Clintons again." They are beyond outrage because they can't commit any crime or vulgarity that is unexpected.
That actually might be the game plan:
Think about it: The Shrillary camp realizes that the HumaHuma issue will come out at some point. The Hitlery camp will be the ones to leak the info on the lesbian relationship and will implicate the Obamaian's because they were afraid Shrillary had damaging info on Hussein.
Hillary leaks info on Huma - Blames the Hussein campaign - Outrage in the MSM ensues - Hussein takes a hit in the polls - Shrillary basks in the sympathy.
The Clinton camp is Alice in Wonderland times 100.

I heard today Hillary accused Romney of flip-flopping. This from a woman who you cant get a clear answer out of regarding what position she supports on virtually any subject?!? Thats rich! I cant wait for the Rupblican-Democrat debates to kick off. I wonder how long it will take her campaign to contact the various pubbie camps and say “Guys, go easy on her, ok? No smear attack questions like Do you want to win the war on terror?”
The Clintons killed 80 Americans at Waco, just because the standoff at the Branch Davidian compound was giving them bad PR...and were never held to account for it. If they could get away with that, they could get away with lesser things.
