And so the Haditha hearings come to a close, and with them, so does the investigation into the incident at Haditha.
Eight Marines were charged. Charges have been dismissed against four of them. Two will be court martialed (unless LtGen Helland dismisses the charges), and now two cases are pending.

It seems Col. Stahlman has a quality greatly lacking in the prosecution, that quality being
common sense.
Thanks for posting this, Red.

>> “I would have expected everyone in that battalion would have been charged and obviously that didn’t happen,” Stahlman said.
Hopefully, Stahlman will be thoroughly disappointed when all is said and done.

But Democrat Representative Murtha already announced them guilty of cold blooded killing on national TV.
They HAVE to be found guilty because Representative Murtha’s aides are adament he will NOT apologize to the United States Marine Corps period!
Call them; he will NEVER apologize.

..."It was a sad day," Laughner said ..."It didn't really sink into me that it would become a law of armed conflict violation."
... Testifying under a grant of immunity, Laughner acknowledged he had lied repeatedly to investigators about keeping copies of the photos on his personal computer. He said he did so because he believed they might one day be important.
Um, can you say MAJOR contradiction? The only reason Laughner is a prosecution witness (IMO) is because he lied to investigators about having photos on his personal computer. To get immunity (and not be charged, himself), he had to turn on Grayson.

Stahlman's recommendation on how Grayson's case should be resolved will go to Lt. Gen. Samuel Helland, who will ultimately make that decision in his role as commander of Marine Corps Forces, Central Command.I wonder if somebody up the food chain who wants to throw some Marines under the bus - - for the good of the Corps, of course - - is dangling a 4th star in front of Helland?

Yes, this is very encouraging for 1st Lt. Grayson. It appears the IO is seriously questioning two of the three charges. The comment about lieing to investigators is interesting. "I think it is a stretch to charge that," Stahlman said.
Now I'm curious what NCIS/prosecutors based this charge against Grayson on. It appears Laughner (the one with immunity) admitted to repeatedly lieing to investigators about having pictures on his computer. Maybe they have tried to charge Grayson with lieing because he didn't offer them everything up front. In other words, I wonder if they tried to charge 1st Lt. Grayson with a lie by ommission. Curious.

Yes, it sounds very good. Seems that the judge is wise to the fact that prosecutors (LtCol Atterbury, chief among them) are throwing stuff against the wall and hoping it sticks. A different judge had much the same reaction at the end of the Capt Stone case—and charges against him were dismissed.
It will telling to see how long it takes LtGen Helland to put an end to this travesty.

And so the Haditha hearings come to a close, and with them, so does the investigation into the incident at Haditha. I am beginning to wonder if the only solution to this second-guessing would be to embed JAG officers in first line combat units for their first year! Those who survived just "MIGHT" have a more realistic understanding of what the hell combat is all about!

Yes, very encouraging. Lt Grayson and his family will have another anxious Thanksgiving but hopefully the lieutenant will be exonerated by Christmas.

Wonder if there’s at least one general who isn’t a political opportunist. Guess we’ll see.
LtGen Helland could still dismiss charges against LtCol Chessani and LCpl Tatum rather than go ahead with their court martials. That may be too much to hope for.

I have a very serious question for all of our legal eagles out there.....and that is, can Time Magazine and the reporter wo wrote this story be sued for false reporting and defamation of charactor by these Marines? That might be really interesting to follow up on.

“he will NEVER apologize”
I’d rather he’d be found guilty of slander, libel and treason.
