It takes months to build a building; it can be knocked down in 30 seconds.

It takes millions of dollars and thousands of man-hours to create public order and safety, but that safety can be shattered by a lone sniper.

It can take years or even generations to build trust between two groups of people, but that trust can be shattered by a single incident.

It is a truism that it is easier to destroy than to create. If it suits someone's goals to create chaos, anger, and dissension, it is easy to do so.

It is much harder to build, but terrorists have no interest in building anything...
