DFW Airport shut down
Star-Telegram ^ | 11-19-07

Dallas/Fort Worth Airport has been shut down this morning because of technical problems during one of the busiest times of day in what is typically one of the busiest weeks of the year.

A communications glitch shut down traffic shortly after 7 a.m. West side communications have been restored, airport spokesman Ken Capps told WBAP radio at 7:50 a.m. Ground stops were still in place on all flights departing for the airport, according to the FAA and flightstats.com. "Gate holds" and "taxi delays" are still in place on flights departing from D/FW, the FAA said on its site.

"Hopefully, East side communications will be back up shortly, and there will be minimal impact," Capps told the radio station.

The problem has something to do with the towers' ability to communicate.

Capps, told KDFW Channel 4 that problems started at about 7 a.m., causing ground traffic at the airport to back up. Some incoming aircraft were allowed to land, according to reports.

"About 7 a.m. the FAA control tower did lose communication for some reason," Capps said. "As a a precaution all aircraft were told to land. The west side tower has come up and we’re hoping the FAA will have the system fixed in few minutes,” Capps told Channel 4 at about 7:30 a.m.

"This falls into the same category as bad weather. We’re hoping it won’t last too much longer," Capps said.

To check on the status of flights, you can go to the airport's flight status Web site at www.dfwairport.com/flights/ . Images on KDFW showed airplanes idle on the tarmac.

Check back for details.

My brother took a flight out of there last night. Thank Heaven this didn’t happen 12 hours earlier! Fortunately he made it here for this Thanksgiving visit without much delay.

Is this Bush’s fault?

Not Bush's fault directly. It is actually caused by Global Warming which IS Bush's fault because he refuses to sign or acknowledge either the Kyoto Accord or OwlGore's hysteria . . . . . er, panic . . . . . er, agenda . . . . . . er, MESSAGE!!

(Yeah, THAT'S it!)

Gee thanks, I’m flying from Amarillo to Newark (thru Houston) this Wednesday.

‘Rillo to Houston then Newark?...... I’d have thought one could have at least went NE to some location for a transfer rather than having to backtrack to the south. Anyways good luck and pack a snack.

I think there is a ripe opportunity for terrorists to attempt some form of disruption this holiday, either by overt acts of a predominantly forceful nature or the attempts of so called trial runs.

Boy. Good thing you got that on record! This way, if anything happens, we can say you told us so!

My predicition: Airline traffic is so stacked right now that any weather or equipmant anomaly severely disrupts the entire worldwide network. There will be natural and accidental disasters. There may be an earthquake in California. A drought may cause major disruptions in Texas. Some flooding will also occur somewhere else in Texas at the same time. The northeast will experience their first big storm of the year.

A ship will spill something somewhere.

Oh, and crazy islamists will do something.

Other than that, good times.

Shouldn’t that be: “Stack ‘em, pack ‘em and rack ‘em.”

I could use a different airline and go to DFW first, but since I live near Newark, Continental is the airline of choice and they use Houston as their hub.

When you fly as much as I do, you learn that the couple of hundred a year for the President's Club is well worth it, even if it's just for a quiet place to sit and read between flights.
