Ole Miss (rumored) 2008 presidential debate site
Unnamed campus official | 11/19/2007 | Dogwood South

The University of Mississippi has been selected to host the first CPD presidential debate, according to an anonymous (but definitely reliable) university official. Just thought y'all may like to know early.

Has anyone heard of any other definite site selections? The "official" announcement by the CPD is slated for some time today.

I work at the university and, though rumored for some time (due, in large part, to the financial backing of local attorney, billionaire and Democratic donor Dickie Scruggs - of Mississippi vs. Big Tobacco fame) I have received confirmation this morning from a university official that Ole Miss’ selection as a debate site is definite. The university, according to this official, will host the first of the presidential debates (probably some time in September, after both conventions).

Pretty exciting stuff!

The RNC should never have gone for this. This is a hugh and HUGE mistake. They may have well agreed to have a debate in Scottsboro, AL. Idiots.

Why so? Are you referring to the possibility of interjecting racial overtones into the debate/coverage/questions b/c it’s Ole Miss and Mississippi?

I can see the event being billed as one set in “poverty-stricken” Mississippi, with questions like these:

“If elected president, how are YOU going to use the federal government to assist the poor of the Mississippi Delta, etc?” “What can YOU do, if elected president, to improve the lives of Mississippi women who live in a state that has been declared the most unsafe for women in the U.S.?” (i.e. how can you open up more abortion clinics in Mississippi?)....

I can see that type of questioning ruling the day. But I’m still glad Ole Miss and Mississippi will be the host!

You are probably right about that. Dickie si a big time liberal and since he is providing some support for this you can bet there will be a liberal slant...even if it means trashing the whole state to get it done.
