Bad New Plans to Rewrite the Constitution (Barf Alert)
Eagleforum ^ | November 21, 2007 | by Phyllis Schlafly

Let's face it.
Some people, especially liberals, just don't like our United States Constitution.
Every few years, they come up with wild or devious plans to make major changes.

The would-be rewriters of the Constitution do not merely propose amendments to remedy a problem, as allowed for in Article V.
They seek structural change after hurling put-downs such as archaic, out-of-date, and dating from the horse-and-buggy era.

The latest to imagine that he can write a 21st century improvement on our great Constitution is University of Virginia professor Larry J. Sabato, whom the Washington Post once dubbed "the Mark McGwire of political analysts."
His rhetoric may be on steroids but his ideas for a "more perfect" Constitution sound like warmed-over Rhodes-scholar dissatisfaction with impudent American revolutionaries who dared to reject the British system and write an original document.

Here are some of Sabato's 23 Proposals to Revitalize Our Constitution, which he set forth in his new book entitled "A More Perfect Constitution."

Are you Barfing at Phyllis Schlafly and her opinion of Larry Sabato’s ideas (which is the implication), or are you agreeing with her and her article and barfing at Sabato’s thinking?

When Sabato recently gathered a few people to discuss his proposals, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito summed up the reaction not only of those at the meeting, but of the rest of us, too. "I'm pretty fond of the Constitution we have now," he said. Thank you, Justice Alito. So are we.

Thank you Justice Alito!

The worst of all Sabato's proposals is to call for a new Constitutional Convention that would scrap our present Constitution and start over from a clean slate.

Unless Article V is amended first, this is unconstitutional. For details, please read ”A Convention for Proposing Amendments…as Part of This Constitution”.

Well, to me at least, if that would not spur the next civil war, nothing else ever could.

I would be up for an armed insurrection at that point.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Surprised he would want to appoint representatives. I've got a better idea. Appoint senators. Just rescind the 17th.

I have an Amendment to offer.

“Anybody who commits an act of Treason, shall be punished by excommunication to either the North or South Pole, where they will live with the polar bears and penguins until they expire.”

How about at THIS point?

It won't hit us in one big hammer blow. Think of the boiling frog.

Amazingly, I must say I’m surprised there are citizens of this country that would actually dream up these idiotic ideas, put them in writing, and then print them in the public domain so that all may witness the utter stupidity of both the writer and the ideas.

I agree, with an exception. Schlafly claims that "Whatever problems we have with primaries cannot be remedied by imposing the rigidity of a constitutionally mandated calendar."

I disagree. I could easily get behind a requirement for a 10 week, 5 states per week primary season. The dates of each state determined the day after each presidential election by lottery draw, every state with equal chance of being first or last.

The order would change every 4 years, and there is a four year preparation time for campaigns to plan strategy based on the size and populations of the chosen states, and NO jockeying the states to be 'first' to have some real or imagined effect

Oh well, it's just a dream.. ;)

Yes, this is proof that steroids produce brain tumors. We are seeing the symptoms, somebody schedule him for a CAT scan. Probably terminal. I guess McGwire was luckier.
