Wait a minute, this is the same guy... different story told.
Must be laid out as withdrawal if the stated time is not served... he was short three months. I guess it depends on if it’s service specialty related... as in EOD, but I think they get more than this for a bonus.
***This is some idiot bureaucrat somewhere in the depths of the Pentagon making an absolutely idiotic decision.***
I feel certain that you are absolutely right.
Rieckoff and the IAVA loathe you right now.
You know how many guys did a couple months and are going for 100% and life pay with them? That’s their whole ‘purpose’ PTSD... oh, and getting out of Iraq. The Pubs offered them over double what they asked for tricare/more for PTSD vets... they turned it down, because it wouldn’t end the war.
If the situation had been reversed and we had owed the AF money, the AF would have siphoned our paychecks so fast it would have made our heads spin.
That's when I decided not to re-enlist.
However, Fox is not the only military wounded who has been asked to return enlistment bonus moneys, per some reports. Other military wounded have received similar ‘requests’.
FoxNews reported this morning that one Congressman (I didn’t catch the name) plans to introduce a bill that would prohibit the military from this kind of action against military wounded — across the board — in the future.

A short time ago, a military spokesman told KDKA's Marty Griffin the bill sent to Fox was a mistake. Griffin: "You are taking this case on involving Jordan and looking into it?" Major Nathan Banks, Army spokesperson: "We are. We are ... definitely working it out. We have seen where the problems have been made, the system, and we're just making - you know, give us the opportunity to make a wrong a right." Major Banks says Fox will not have to pay back his bonus. |
Did you ever get your money?
Just tell them, “I spent it”.
Brig Gen Michael S. Tucker says those injured in the line of duty will not be responsible for returning any bonuses they receive.
Pentagon is investigating who sent the letter and why.
Wounded-in-Action agency is supposed to scrutinize such claims/incidents.
1-800-984-8523 is Pentagon agency number for any military wounded who are having problems (letters, etc.) with bonuses, etc.
No.
So the Bush Administration can find $80 million for the Palestinian Terrorist Authority, but not a penny for injured troops?
There was a thread yesterday on this, and some former military FReepers who know the DoD accounting system said it was probably just an automatic form letter generated because some number wasn’t entered correctly or some box left unchecked. And there after apparently been other cases of this happening. I’m sure that now that the word is out, DoD will make a hasty fix of the problem.
That’s pretty despicable.
I don’t believe this is a “bureaucratic snafu” but libs in DC who are behind the scenes supporting the Dims and want bad press for the President. This is what was going on with the libs in the State Dept. saying they didn’t want to go to Iraq.
I am a firm believer that the whole of the bureaucracy needs house cleaning when a Republican takes over for a Democrat. Not just at the highest levels, but at ALL levels. Career government workers should find work elsewhere as their jobs should be on the line every election cycle.
Just watched an Army BG on Fox.
He said the intent was only to retrieve the bonus money from “non line of duty” cases, which is fair.
Any company commander (including myself) who’s had a soldier who’s permanantly injured himself with alcohol or careless behavior would agree.
Since many (most?) unelected bureaucrats are worthless and unemployable, just think what a field day the opposition party would have with the resulting sky-high unemployment statistics... '-)
How dare they! I want the bureaucrat out!
Good news! Thanks for the update.
