Utah Foots the Bill for Ailing Cops' Controversial Scientology-Based Detox Treatment
Fox News ^ | November 21, 2007 | Sara Bonisteel

A controversial Church of Scientology treatment used on World Trade Center emergency responders is being used in Utah to "detoxify" cops who raided methamphetamine labs in the 1980s and 1990s.

The Utah Meth Cops Project is treating around a dozen former and current police officers at taxpayers' expense, using a regime devised by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard at a Bio-Cleansing Centers of America facility in Orem, Utah.

State Attorney General Mark Shurtleff brought the project west after seeing it used to treat emergency workers in New York who were injured working at Ground Zero following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

More than 800 rescue and recovery workers who had complained of respiratory ailments have been treated at the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project in Manhattan, using funds raised by Scientologists including actor Tom Cruise.

The Hubbard protocol has its critics, despite anecdotal evidence from responders who said the treatment has made them feel better.

"There is no demonstrated efficacy or effectiveness for that protocol," said Raymond Harbison, a professor of environmental and occupational health at the University of South Florida's School of Public Health. "That is, there's no demonstration that that protocol speeds the release of substances associated with meth labs from one's body."

Scientology is a criminal entity, stealing vast amounts of money from vulnerable and easily manipulated fools. Shame on the people of Utah for funding these grifters!

I thought Tom Cruise & his scientologist friends were footing the bill for this.

At the Orem clinic, the men take a vitamin cocktail that includes B-3 or niacin and spend 20 to 25 minutes stretching in a 160-degree sauna for a nearly four-hour period to help the body release toxins that may be stored in the body...

I have to say, that sounds quite reasonable. Thetans this isn't.

"It all began 75 million years ago with a galactic federation of planets ruled by the evil Lord Xenu, Fearing overcrowding, Xenu rounded up countless aliens from all those planets and had those aliens frozen. The frozen alien bodies were loaded onto Xenu's galactic cruisers, which looked like DC-8s, except with rocket engines. They were sent to earth and dumped into the volcanoes of Hawaii and other volcanoes. They were no longer frozen. They were dead. "The souls of the aliens floated toward the sky," the president continued, explaining that Xenu had built giant "soul catchers" to collect them all and unload them into a brainwashing facility he had built on earth. "The souls were forced to watch days of brainwashing material that tricked them into believing a false reality," the president revealed. "Xenu then released the alien souls that roamed the earth aimlessly in a fog of confusion. At the dawn of man the aliens found bodies they could grab onto. They attached themselves to all mankind, which still to this day causes all our fears, confusions and problems."

Tom Cruise is funding the detox for the first responders of 911. If the responders feel better, who am I to argue.

The state of Utah is footing the bill for those that did drug busts and may be having medical problems. The State viewed what was happening in NY and the results, so they tried it. If the troopers are feeling better, who am I to argue.

It was the state that sent them in to bust these labs, so, these troopers, cops, etc have state medical insurance and now the insurance is funding these detox treatments. Maybe better than sticking them all on drugs for the next 20 years. Who knows.

This reminds me of the following cure for vision problems.

“Okay, close your eyes. We’re going to try something that has helped a lot of other people.” Does nothing. Waits ten seconds while moving around a bit as if taking some valid action. “Okay, open your eyes. Any better.”

“Why yes, that’s amazing. What did you do?”

LOL

Not sure if I am going down the same path as you on this but it does remind me of going to the doctor and he telling me, “It’s good that you came in today”. Yes, because if I had waited another day, my body would have healed itself. I for one, hate to take medications unless I absolutely have to.

I do have friends that have going to detox retreats and felt a heck of a lot better. One had allergies and took pills for several years. After a 5 day retreat, they dumped the pills. Maybe it was just mind over matter.

The removal of these parasites would seem to be a priority task. Since I am unable to detect the presence or absence of these Thetans, I suppose I am dependent on those that claim that they can. I mean, REALLY dependent because it’s my immortal soul we’re talking about and I’m hopelessly lost until I can clear myself. No way to avoid it.

I just hope nobody tries to exploit my vulnerability.

No problem.  I can identify with your follow-up comments though.  If I had a dime for every time I've been told, "You should see a doctor for that.", I'd be a couple of dollars ahead.  LOL

I don't go to the doctor any more than I have to for insurance purposes.  By the stats it appears most men have the same policy on that topic.

I'm not against a detox retreat per se, but I'm not quite sure the Scientology retreat is what you and I would be thinking of along those lines.

I agree, it’s not the treatment, it’s who is performing it, the Scientology group.

Like you, I care about the first responders of 911 and what they did and sacrificed, if going to any clinic, and yes the one Cruise and I am sure Travolta are funding, than great for them. Hopefully they are not being pitched the scientology doctrine while getting the treatment.

I can’t imagine that they wouldn’t be, but I do understand where you are coming from. I am supportive of things to help the first responders that are having problems.

“”I started back in the mid-’80s, when we didn’t even have rubber gloves,” Call said. “We went into those with our teeny runners, our cutoffs and our tank tops.””

Now, this cop certainly knows his own body better that I do so I don’t question him on that, but I think the phrase should been “tenny runners”, like in tennis shoes?

"Anecdotal stories, to me, is enough"

It'd be enough for me, too, if I got to spend other people's money on stuff.
