I'm very tired, I have to be up in 4 hours, and I don't have time to read the whole article, so...

Besides sardines for breakfat, etc, how can I get lots of vitamin D from food or supplementation?

Well, vitamin A in large doses can be be poisonous. That is a medical fact. Polar bears store so much vitamin A in their livers that a human who eats it can die.

Buy a bottle of vitamin D supplements. Mine come in units of 400. I take a multivitamin (contain 400 units of vit D) plus the straight D pills numbering four (4). That is a total of 2000 units.

Now THAT is a very good question!

I buy mine from a local health food store run by organic food nuts. If anyone is loco about health and where what they put into their mouths originates, it would be these people.

Sometimes, Captain, you just gotta’ trust. You know, close your eyes, commend yourself to God, and leap.

Kind of like getting married.

Doctors and nutritionists have told us for decades that doses of vitamins above the RDA are unnecessary and even harmful.

That is still true if you're talking fat-soluable vitamins such as A and D--high doses are actually poisonous. But water-soluable vitamins such as the B series, C, and a few others are relatively safe even at 500-700% RDA on a daily basis.

Make sure it's D3, not D2 (it will say so on the label).

D2 is not the right form for supplementation. But the best way to supplement is sunlight.

Lots more info here: Vitamin D

This was a fascinating article.

I take a multi-vitamin every day, but I never paid attention to the Vitamin D level contained it. And I don’t consume much milk or products made with it.

I’m going to look further into this. Thank you for pinging me.

Thanks. More evidence.

As I have stated on a few other threads, there is no doubt in my mind that the discoveries about Vitamin D will continue, and that when all is said and done, the Vitamin D/Omega 3 findings will turn out to be the most important advances in medicine for the last 50 years.

But I wish I had a nickle for every article that gets into the “it’s a vitamin!”
No! It’s a hormone!
“It’s a vitamin, I tell ya”
“HORMONE!!”
SLUG!!
BAM!!
POW!!!

Like the old Batman or somethin!

You’re welcome.

I’m going to do a little experimenting myself.

I do not get much sun, but (mainly my hands) get exposed to UV pretty frequently looking for fluorescence in drilled samples (and oil shows—crude oil and many refined oils glow under UV light) dozens of times daily when I am working, which is about 2 days out of 3. That may have some impact, too. I seldom get colds.

It’s gotta be the right UV. UVA won’t do squat.

I’m gonna make one more comment, not specifically directed at you:

Listen folks, we’ve heard all the stuff about Vitamin D being poisonous, yada yada blah blah...

But there have been clinical cases of accidental overdoses that were in the MILLIONS OF UNITS PER DAY that went on for MONTHS BEFORE ANY SYMPTOMS WERE OBSERVED, AND THE SYMPTOMS STOPPED WHEN THE OVERDOSING STOPPED.

We also continuously hear about getting it from the sun. I’m certainly not going to say you NEVER get it from the sun, but for the UVB to get through the atmosphere, the sun has to be within about 30 degrees of the zenith. in the continental US I would guestimate that this happens LESS THAN TWO MONTHS PER YEAR, AND ONLY FOR THE SOUTHERN LATITUDES.

You can go to the drugstore and get a bottle of 1000IU Vit D for like 3 bucks.

And because Vitamin D has been shown to regulate the copying of DNA in the cells to prevent errors, VITAMIN D HAS BEEN SHOWN UNARGUABLY TO REDUCE THE RISK OF A LARGE NUMBER OF CANCERS!

Vitamin D won’t kill you, but COLON CANCER WILL!

If Vitamin D were all that dangerous, OUR STREETS WOULD BE LINED WITH DEAD MAILMEN!

Go to the store and DO IT TODAY! The life you save MAY BE YOUR OWN!

/end rant/

"Besides sardines for breakfat, etc, how can I get lots of vitamin D from food or supplementation?"

If you take any 'supplements,' just be sure that all the ingredients are from 'once live' sources. Synthetic sources can destroy large amounts of nucliec acid in your cells, thus leading to the production of abnormal cells, among other things.
