Psalm 103: 1-5

Bless the Lord, O my soul;
and all that is within me,
bless His holy Name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all His benefits;
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities;
Who healeth all thy diseases;
Who redeemeth thy life from destruction;
Who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
Who satsifieth thy mouth with good things;
so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Heavenly Father,

We bow our heads before You, our great and omnipotent Father, and thank You for the blessings You have heaped upon us. Though we are unworthy of Your love, we rejoice in it. Though we are undeserving of Your forgiveness, we seek it. We confess that we are sinners living in a world where sin runs rampant. We ask for Your Holy Spirit to descend upon us, Father, to separate us from wordliness, to wash us thoroughly from our iniquities and to cleanse us from our sins. Restore unto us the joy of Your salvation, and uphold us with Your free Spirit. May our hearts be led by the desire to please You alone.

We commit to You our President, Father, and ask that You would continue to uphold him with Your righteous right hand. Be his courage, his wisdom, his strength, and his vision. Wherever he walks, please secure his steps so that He follows only You. When he rests, may he lie down in peace, and may he hear You speak to him even as he sleeps. Satisfy his mouth with good things so that his youth is renewed like the eagle’s. We pray that You would create in him a hunger and thirst for righteousness that will guide his every action and that You would crown him with Your lovingkindness and tender mercies.

Guide our military men and women, Lord, and hide then in the shadow of Your wings. Grant them success in their efforts to restore Iraq to a place of freedom. Comfort the families of each troop during this Christmas season, and fill them with hope, patience, and endurance.

We need You every hour, most Precious Lord. Help us to pray without ceasing, to believe in Your power, and to rejoice in the confidence of knowing that You are faithful to respond to our believing prayers. In the Name above all names, Jesus Christ, Amen.

Anonymous Has Come

The kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared. —Titus 3:4

Years ago I received a cylinder in the mail that turned out to be an exquisite, custom-made Jim Schaaf bamboo fly rod and Bill Ballan classic reel—costly fishing gear that I could not have afforded. An enclosed handwritten note said simply, “I wanted to do something for you.” To this day I have no idea who sent it.

Poet William Cowper also had an anonymous friend who sent gifts to him but never revealed his name. Cowper’s comment on receiving each gift was always the same: “Anonymous has come.” I think of that phrase often whenever I fish with that rod: “Anonymous has come.” I will always be grateful to my unnamed friend for his kindness and love to me.

All through our lives God showers us with His goodness—gifts of truth, beauty, friendship, love, and laughter, to name but a few—and we behave as if we don’t know the source. God has been our anonymous Friend.

But He doesn’t wish to remain anonymous. If you want to know more about your secret Friend, read the Gospels, for He is seen most clearly in Jesus. Love has always been in God’s heart, but in Jesus it “appeared.” God, revealed in Jesus, is your kind and merciful Friend. Will you acknowledge and thank Him today?

With thankful hearts give praise to Jesus
For His blessings without end;
Let’s give to Him our full devotion;
He’s our Savior and our Friend.  —D. De Haan

Our dearest friend is but a shadow compared to Jesus.

Amen, my Sister in Christ, and it was a Blessing to Read your Heaven-Enabled Prayer on this Cold and Cloudy November Day.

Our Gracious Father,

We Come Before You with Joy, our Lord, so Thankful for Your Steadfast Love. Be Praised Forever for the Gifts You Grant to Your Lambs. Surrounded by Grace, our Cup of Blessing Overflows! We who are So Unworthy Lift High Your Excellent Name. Thank You for Loving us, Father, and Placing us in Your Son!

Most Merciful Master, we Ask for our President's Health and Peace. May Your Angels Surround and Guard and Empower this Man. We Ask that Christ will be his All-in-All. Please Grant that he will Lead Many to our Savior-King. May he be Honored Before the Universe, Loving Lord. May Jesus Christ be First in his Heart and Life.

We Ask, our Abba, for the Safety and Blessing of our Troops. Thank You for the Victories You Grant them, through Your Grace. Please Place in their Enemies a Fear of the Living God. May Your Salvation Overflow Iraq, and Sweep the Entire Earth.

We Ask, our Shepherd, for an Awakening to Fall Upon our Land. Please Send us Godly Men to Lead us in Righteousness and Truth. For the Glory of the King, may our America Shine in Thy Grace.

Please Bless my Brothers and Sister, Loving God. Thank You for Hearing us, as we Magnify our Jesus' Name, amen.
