The Nation's Tree: N.C. Fraser fir that is headed to the White House seemed reluctant at first to turn loose of its roots

"Christmas-tree grower Joe Freeman and his wife, Linda Jones, of Mistletoe Meadows Christmas Tree Farm, and Linda Gragg, the executive director of the N.C. Christmas Tree Association, will present the Fraser fir to Laura Bush on Monday.

A White House delegation visited the farm last month and picked out more than 20 smaller trees for the Oval Office and other rooms. The giant tree is for the Blue Room, where a chandelier will be removed to reveal a winch in the ceiling.

The tree is 20 feet tall and weighs about 2,000 pounds. It took a lot of work to get it to the ground without damaging the branches.

It is overcast today so I think it is about 85F. Generally it is in the low 90sF with a breeze.

Year ‘round. Usually it isn’t too humid. Alabama in August is much much worse. On the other hand, it can be beastly at times.

We had one daughter and the young man who is staying us this semester as well as 24 other people. My daughter said the house was unbelievably crowded but it was fun! We have to order our turkeys months in advance from the states.

Wow cannot imagine having to do this unless it was a very special one. Our local butcher has ones he gets from Norfolk and you have to order those a couple of months before but all the supermarkets have loads of turkeys for Christmas.

What do you have for Christmas do you import a turkey for that as well?

I wonder about what you said, but Liz Cheney and her husband Rick are currently working with the Thompson campaign. And it may be too close to the first primary votes for someone else to get in, even VP Cheney.

BTW I’m reading Lynne’s new book, [Blue Skies, No Fences]. Has anyone else finished it?
