The pubs have to deal with a large part of their voting base that want abortion made illegal while...it will never work.

Every pro-lifer needs to wake up to the fact that your way of thinking is the one that is shared by most of the Republican "leadership" now.

Including those who draw their paycheck from "National Right to Life."

If the major goal is to knock off Rooty, Fred is the man. He’s the one candidate ALL conservatives should be backing. Period!

As long as Fox is in the tank for Giuliani, however, Fred won’t get a fair shake. While Fred did a decent job with his answers, Chris Wallace kept Fred on the defensive. And when a candidate is defending themselves, its hard to get their message out.

Richardson again says “progress shouldn’t be measured by body counts.” You all know how laughable that is. They like to count them when they’re up, but not when they’re down.

He cites the old poll on the number of Iraqis who say it’s okay to shoot an American soldier.

He is, however, basically incoherent, as he has been before.

The big difference in the two being that Ross had some semblance of sanity.

Fred is now the clearest about his economic plan, point by point, and it'll work in the primary, if not the general.

Keep the tax cuts, kill the ATM, kill the death tax, cut corporate taxes, and allow taxpayers a Fair Tax option.

That last one alone should garner some support.

Good point. All the other frontrunners are pro-amnesty. Giuliani is open borders. Huckabee is open borders. Romney is open borders but says he isn't. McCain created the amnesty program. Thompson's the only real believable frontrunning candidate that is pushing the immigration platform, and he seems to be the one who has been taking up the torch from the Hunters and the Tancredos on this issue.

Right you are.

Anybody wonder what ever happened to Lou Dobbs on the amnesty issue? It seems to me that if Lou Dobbs (and CNN) really cared about the issue they would have anti amnesty Fred on a lot.

LOL, anybody know how many time Dobbs has invited Fred onto his show?

Yeah the ONLY time that body counts matter to the Dems is when it’s dead U.S. Soldiers.

When is the last time you saw any kind of estimate of al-Qaeda killed since 2001?

If you want all incoherent Bill all the time...read his Playboy interview.

The early wrap-up of the two party candidates will be very enticing to a third-party campaign for the ‘real’ conservatives.

Watch for media exposure of a group known as “American Freedom Agenda” next spring and summer, when the DBM really want to support the dem candidate by promoting the third party story.

Some names of “conservatives” to watch for on the talk shows:
Bob Barr
Richard Viguerie
Bruce Fein

What do you do with people who have no regard for facts or the truth?

Same thing we do every Sunday. Mock them on this thread.

By me, Fred did fine. BUT.... Mike Huckabee was on his show for much longer as I recall...almost the whole hour. That’s the problem I’m having with Fred...it’s almost like it’s a game to him...a dip his toe in the water and play like a presidential candidate. I like the guy but I wish he’d be more forceful.

Did FOX offer Fred the entire hour or did they just do that for Huck?

I understand exactly the point you are making on abortion having go through a similar thought process myself.

Years ago the evangelical movement in particular in Britain go behind David Alton’s bill of bringing abortion down from 28 - 24 weeks and the bill succeeded. Later the same movement felt that they were wrong and should have campaigned for the abolishing of abortion not restriction.

I too after weighing up the arguments thought that maybe they were right but recently have now considered that why go for what would be virtually impossible but put more effort into campaigning for only first term abortions. I know the majority of abortions are first term but at least that would be a start and something that many people from all walks of life and political and religious points of view already agree with.

The abortion issue is going to be re-visited in this parliament in Britain due to the advances in medical treatment and many babies surviving and thriving under 24 weeks that the proposal is to bring it down to 20 or 18 weeks I would go further and maybe the first trimester is a good compromise for the pro life movement in Britain.

In regards to Ron Paul, I think it is interesting that he has the same initials as another person who ran in the 90’s as a third party candidate, Ross Perot. Has anyone ever seen Ron Paul and Ross Perot in the same room together?

They should run together:

"Elect R2P2 (Artoo-Peetoo) and give the Dark Side a chance! We have charts and graphs, an extremely irritating candidate and his squeaky, chirpy and comical running-mate!"

The MSM like side issues they think it gives them more viewers and that on the whole the public are not that interested or understand the meatier issues maybe they are right maybe not.

Responsible journalism should not pander to the lowest common denominator. The Fourth Estate should be educating the public about important issues that will have a major impact on the nation and their lives. The "meatier issues" should not be the province of the politicians and the elites. As Clemenceau famously said, "War is too important to be left to the generals."

The MSM also uses questions to marginalize or cariacature a candidate, e.g., the UFO question to Kucinich. They use the abortion issue, [embryonic] stem cell research, and creationism to paint Reps as extremists and zealots. It is often instructive to look at what questions/subjects are omitted during the debates, TV appeareances, etc. than what are asked/raised.

It is frustrating for us who enjoy the deeper political issues but unfortunately it is a situation I do not see changing soon.

We need in-depth issues debates rather than sound bite journalism. Keeping the public in the dark and treating them like children will not develop the consensus we need to meet the daunting challenges this nation faces in the not too distant future.

So we’ll have Clinton/Richardson (probably) as the Democrat ticket

I think your looking at Clinton / Bayh actually.

I've said for a long time Indiana and the mid west come into play with Bayh on the ticket and he withdrew from the race way to quick not to have cut a deal.

This weekend the Indy Star published a front page spread on voters, mainly highlighting Bayh.

52% of republicans here think he's doing a good job!

I constantly hear life long conservatives say that "I'll vote Bayh, it would be great to have a hoosier in the white house"..Convoluted thinking, you bet. It is however the way things are here. I think that ticket is a done deal no matter how much boot licking richardson does.

I can’t believe that no one is talking about Romney’s judge appointment that let a psychopath out of prison without bail so he could flee to WA and murder a young couple in their bed.
The MSM is calling it Romney’s Willie Horton moment, yet no one on Free Republic is talking about it.

I agree they were for Rudy, but lately they have also been pushing Huckabee. Actually understandable when we realize they want to push the most liberal Republican candidates! Can’t wait to see Fred tonight at 6:00Eastern with Chris Wallace! GO FRED!

FOX pushes Huckabee because he splits the anti Rudy vote even further.
