Retailers cheer initial holiday sales
Research group and Penney both say weekend results have started off strong.
The nation's retailers had a robust start to the holiday shopping season, according to results announced Saturday by a national research group that tracks sales at retail outlets across the country.
According to ShopperTrak RCT Corp., which tracks sales at more than 50,000 retail outlets, total sales rose 8.3 percent to about $10.3 billion on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving...

Demoncrat party propaganda talking points.
uh, how much of that 10+ billion was cash sales....
Man, didn’t CNN just run an article yesterday about the disappointing start to the shopping season? My head is spinning.
What difference does that make? Even if you are implying that some of the 10+ billion won't be paid back, one could look at credit card default rates for an idea of the figure.
no wait...

I slough those people off the second they utter their “ talk the economy down” nonsense. They`reeither democrats or easily led by the pitchfork and torches crowd.
Fact is the data doesn`t lie, sales are up and the dominant media, as usual, got it wrong.
They failed in their doom and gloom propaganda in regards to Iraq ans the nation building taking place there so now they`ve taken their propaganda war directly to the US economy. After all, there`s an election coming.
well were not doomed, but one day of big sales doesn’t mean “all is well”.
even if the crash never comes, (and I hope it doesn’t) ... we are still heading the wrong way. Tons of chinese junk in stores, tons of illegals littering the streets. All is NOT well.
In this case, it only took 60 seconds for the response to appear. ;)
Don’t forget, today is Cyber Monday...if you’re going to do any online shopping, today’s the day. Google the term and you’ll find “codes” for discounts on many different websites.
It isn't the issue of whether it gets paid back, it would be the fact that consumers are taking on more debt. Essentially doing the same thing we curse the Federal Government for dozens of times a day on here. If even 1/2 of the quantity is being charged, it means the consumer is getting 5 billion of "stuff", but paying what 2 or 3 times that for it in the long run.
It's not gloom and doom, it's people spending money they don't have.
You're basing your "no doom and gloom" on one day of retail sales? Aren't you ignoring a whole plethora of other factors that also matter?

Yeah yeah, the weak dollar, mortgages. Heard it all before. The dollar probably won`t drop much further and one man`s loss is anothers gain. Drops in home prices means buyers delight.
Oh, and after the commercial break, Rush Limbaugh has some words for you doom-and-gloomer-vote-democraters at about 12:24pm est.
I'm glad you have a crystal ball that's shown you the future. Meanwhile, those of us in the real world are wondering what's going to happen if OPEC, China, Japan and all the others decide to depeg and/or sell off all that worthless American paper. Granted, that isn't a guarantee.

Oh, and tonight while you enjoy your frosty beverage, tune in to Glenn Beck on CNN Headline prime. He has some words for you boot-licking-there-is-never-anything-wrong-while-a-republican-is-in-office people.
Glenn Beck is an alarmist so i understand how you connect on that visceral emotional level.
I prefer hard data and using my head, not my heart.
Threads like these are a peek into the psyche of some FReepers.
Paranoid doom-and-gloomers.
They remind me of the prison guard in “Shawshank Redemption”. They can turn an inheritance into bad news. Always accentuating the negative. Fun people to be around, I’m sure. ;)
I have a part-time job in a retail store in a local mall. In the five years that I have been there, we had the biggest dollar sales ever the day after this Thanksgiving. Enough with gloom and doom already.
Party like there’s no tomorrow.
There is a tomorrow for 99.998% of us. Never fails.

I have seen two stories recently about Canadians flooding into VT and NY to go shopping.
Also, on MSM a story of British and other Europeans flying to NYC and Boston just to shop.
Ski areas in New England are going to get a much bigger percentage of customers from Canada this season. Good for them bad for Tremblant.
As for me, I was at my local GAME STOP at 5:45 am Friday morning to buy my 9 year old son a Nintendo Wii for $249.99 plus two games and extra controlers for a total of $369.00. I will/have done the balance of my shopping online.
My brother’s that way. He bought gold for $800 back in 1980. Told me to sell all my equities in October ‘02. He’s a perfect contrary indicator.
