JERUSALEM – President Bush told Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas during a private meeting today the U.S. will ensure the Palestinians will have a state on the ground before Bush leaves office, a senior Palestinian negotiator told WND.

"Bush and the U.S. administration gave us a commitment there will be a Palestinian state before he leaves office, and not just an outline of a state on paper but contiguous territory on the ground," said the Palestinian negotiator, who spoke on condition his name be withheld because he was revealing the contents of a private meeting.

"Bush said he is committed to seeing an Israeli withdrawal from most of the West Bank," the negotiator said.

Bush met separately today with Abbas and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert ahead of tomorrow's U.S.-sponsored Annapolis summit at which the Israeli and Palestinian teams are slated to present a joint declaration widely expected to outline a Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and eastern sections of Jerusalem.

So the day after they declare their independence from Israel, is Israel going to launch an attack on them?

I would expect a story like this to be misquoted and de-contextified.

Bush is either:
1. A naive cowboy;
2. Obessessed with getting a “legacy” at any cost;
or,
3. Just plain ignorant.

Whatever the reason, his Roadmap to Peace is full of potholes.

Why even bother flying Abbas 4000 miles to the White House for a meeting?

Bush could had his staff buy an expensive suit, put it on a manequinn. He could then make promises about a Palestinian state to the finely-dressed manequinn and recieved psychic “assurances” from it about peace with Israel. The manequinn would have had as much credibility and authority over the Palestinans as Abbas does. And it probably would have been a much more engaging dinner companion.

The same goes for Olmert for that matter.

The minute it becomes official, Hamas will take Palestine over from Abbas. It will be followed by such carnage as they attack the Israelis. This is the worst plan ever.

There's no chance that will happen. The Israeli public is well aware that Abbas writ does not run over most of the West Bank and a Palestinian state would be a ripe target for a Hamas takeover. Jews who live there would have to be removed by force and they're not going give Bush that kind of understanding - they will not consent to it because Bush no standing and no right to make that decision for them.

He’s had plenty of advisors telling him “it ain’t gonna work”.

But he’s hellbent on getting his legacy and willing to
trample all over Israel to do it. (And to placate his and
his dad’s Saudi buddies.)

Or else...........he’s just ignorant.
