Most Democratic candidates are ignoring African Americans (Latest Rant from Rev. Jesse)
Chicago Sun Times ^ | November 27, 2007 | Jesse Jackson

Can Democrats get the votes they need simply because they're not Republicans? You might think so in this presidential campaign. African-American and urban votes are critical to any Democratic victory. Bill Clinton won two terms without winning the most white votes. His margin was the overwhelming support of black voters. George Bush learned that lesson; that's why his campaigns spent so much effort suppressing the black vote in key states like Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004. His victory margin was the tally of votes suppressed or uncounted.

Yet the Democratic candidates -- with the exception of John Edwards, who opened his campaign in New Orleans' Ninth Ward and has made addressing poverty central to his campaign -- have virtually ignored the plight of African Americans in this country. The catastrophic crisis that engulfs the African-American community goes without mention. No urban agenda is given priority. When thousands of African Americans marched in protest in Jena, La., not one candidate showed up.

Democratic candidates are talking about health care and raising the minimum wage, but they aren't talking about the separate and stark realities facing African Americans.

The civil rights movement succeeded in ending segregation and providing blacks with the right to vote. But the end of legal apartheid did not end the era of discrimination. And the ending of institutionalized violence did not end institutionalized racism.

Patterns of discrimination are sharply etched. African Americans have, on average, about half of the good things that whites have, and double the bad things. We have about half the average household income and less than half the household wealth. On the other hand, we're suffering twice the level of unemployment and twice the level of infant mortality (widely accepted as a measure of general health).

Only one way out of poverty and that is through hard work. Welfare is the road to poverty. Nothing more need be said, Jesse.

Agh! Pay attention to meeeeeeeeeee.

Seriously, nobody takes him seriously because the blacks are already in the pocket. - Better than slaves, they even vote for the masters of the plantation.

God, talk about The Matrix being real!

No matter what they rant about, in 08 the city machines that dominate blue state politics will swing into action and vote 97% -105% dem. - and I didn’t make that statistic up out of thin air.
Look at philly.

Dear Reverend Jackson,

Why should this be a surprise to you?

Sincerely,

The Democrats are confident that the blacks and other typical welfare dependent minorities will continue to vote for their "suppliers" who will, in turn, continue to pay for their allegiance.

Dems to Jesse - "Just shut up and vote Democrat. Besides, what else are you gonna do? Vote for a Republican?"

Suppressing the black vote? Jesse has become so truth-adverse, you'd think he was a Clinton.

I recall a black woman in Florida in 2000 who said on TV that she had voted twice...I really doubt anything was done to her by way of punishment.

Stupid ass. Bush got a HIGHER percentage, and NUMBER, of Black votes in '04, at least in Ohio.

Sometimes even stupid isn't stupid enough for you.

Pretty much, so is Jackass going to vote Republican this time? If not, then shuddup.

We gotta admit, nobody really wants the kind of attention this gets. Ask Mr. Justice Clarence Thomas (USSC).

“Suppressing the black vote?”

....I think what he is talking about here is that the cops were at the polls arresting people who had warrants....I loved it!....Jackson becomes more irrelevant every year.

Hispanics, the largest and fastest growing minority, will replace blacks as the Dem’s most important constituency. By 2050, one in every four Americans will be Hispanic. And non-Hispanic whites will be 50% of the population, down from the 89% they were in 1965. As Hispanics become more powerful politically, blacks will become more and more marginalized. And they have no where to go except to stay on the plantation.

That Jesse The-Reverend-Adulterer Jackson is always trying to bring folks together, isn’t he?

Hey Jess, which party was it that championed the “civil rights movement?” Let’s see, OwlGore’s Daddy voted against it, as did Eddie Kennedy. Hmmm. What party are/were those guys a part of? I’ll give you a hint: Begins with “D” and ends in “rat.”
