Indiana Could Turn Blue
Political Wire ^ | November 26, 2007

"Disillusioned with President Bush's handling of the war, the economy and immigration, nearly half of likely voters in Indiana appear poised to buck 40 years of tradition and vote for a Democratic presidential ticket -- if it includes Sen. Evan Bayh," according to a new Indianapolis Star-WTHR poll.

The poll "revealed a growing sense of pessimism, with nearly three-quarters saying the nation is headed in the wrong direction and 28 percent approving of George W. Bush's performance as president."

I figure Hitlery will pick Bayh to bring a swing state over. She’s not going to select any of the presidential candidates, that’s for sure.

Damn! Nevada, Colorado, Virginia, Ohio, now Indiana! Every few weeks a new state gets added to the “could turn blue/is turning blue” list.

LOL, I don’t think she could win IN even if Bayh was on the ticket, doubt he will be.

But I have heard this as well...you don’t think Reconquista Richardson has a shot?

They went to Iraq together and upon their return, he confirmed that he had no interest in running for President. I think that the deal has already been done that he’s her running mate. However, Indiana may be a more difficult swing to make than she thinks, especially after the Indy mayor race. They may love their native son less than they hate her.

But, if the conservatives go to the polls things CAN change!

Wed Nov 14, 2007 7:16 AM ES

Voter unrest fueled by this summer’s property and income tax increases, combined with significant Democratic defections, helped sweep Republican Greg Ballard into office.

Ballard’s campaign and image — an everyman political outsider with an impressive military pedigree — also played well in Decatur, Perry and Franklin townships, which form the southern third of the county. The preliminary figures show he won every precinct in Decatur and Franklin, and all but two or three in Perry, carrying most of the precincts in those three townships with 60 percent or more of the vote.

This is a big dent in the confidence of Democrats who are hoping for big victories in Congress in upcoming elections. Republicans are finally showing that they’re prepare to fight, and win, in upcoming elections. People are simply fed up with higher taxes and Indianapolis made their voices heard at the ballot box.

So, do Hoosiers think that Democrats are going to handle the war, the economy and immigration better than Bush. In each way that Bush has mishandled all three, he’s acted more like a Democrat than a Republican.

I remembered when Birch Bayh was voted out of office back in 1980 by Dan Quayle. It is time for Evan to be run out of town as well ! I did not vote for Evan to be Governor and when he ran for Senator, I already left for Colorado. The ironic thing, Evan ran as a conservative when he was going for governorship. If I remember right, Evan Bayh wanted the State Legislature to become full time professional like California. If I remember right, his Wife has major California ties.

On him being Senator, unfortunately, the Republicans have been unable to run someone decent though.

Believe it. Bayh could run on a platform of global communism and hoosiers would vote for him in a landslide. I live here. I know.

All one has to do is look at how the Senate and House are run. NEVER VOTE RAT

If this is true, then just what Blue states can a Pub win? And if they need two blue states, only Rudy can do that and that is just factual.

“I figure Hitlery will pick Bayh to bring a swing state over. She’s not going to select any of the presidential candidates, that’s for sure.”

She sure isn’t... Not only are they, breathtakingly, even more liberal than she is, but many of them have gone out of their way to get on her enemy list. She’s going to pick a moderate to try to pick up swing voters. Maybe someone popular. Maybe not even a democrat.

“If this is true, then just what Blue states can a Pub win? And if they need two blue states, only Rudy can do that and that is just factual.”

Also factual is that Rudy would gain those blue states at the expense of borderline red ones. And, honestly, he’s painting himself into a real corner trying to say conservative things while also trying to paint himself as a moderate... He’s not going to suddenly attract conservatives who don’t like him, but he can certainly alienate moderates and democrats who might otherwise have voted for him.

Why didn’t the just ask: “If someone from Indiana runs for President, would you vote for them?” That would be about as objective.

Marion County, which is very left leaning as most inner cities are, just booted out the Dem Mayor and City Council and replaced them with Republicans..

Bayh would help Hillary in Ohio too. I have been predicting this on FR for the past year. Bayh was an early supporter of Hillary, and his image of a moderate Dem, family man, etc., would help the ticket in the midwestern states.

She could also go for Richardson to bring over NM.

Bayh is to Indiana what Daschle was to SD. The Hoosiers think he is a different type of democrat. He runs like a conservative and goes back to DC and votes with Ted and Hillary.......they can't make that connection. If he was on the ticket...they would fnally make that connection and Indina would probably go further Republican.

Bayh would make the ticket to try to turn Ohio, not Indiana.

None of my friends from Indiana would vote democrat, no matter who it was. I am voting for Hunter in the primaries and hopefully my overseas ballet will count this election.

I think you’re right. Ohio has been more of a worry in recent years. They are continually leaning further left.

Very well could be. Observant voters in Indiana have seen Byah's true colors. But, there are a lot of sheep in Indianapolis, East Chicago, Gary, Evansville, Jeffersonville, etc. I hope you are correct. I'd hate to break a winning streak that dates back to Kennedy!

Love the handle BTW. All in the Family ranks up there with Andy Griffith for me in terms of best sitcom ever. Archie was a very well written character.

In 1964, Indiana went for Johnson over Goldwater 56% -44%, as I recall.

It's a bigger blot on the State's history than the time the Confederate cavalry burned the Salem train station.
