The REAL problem is that President Bush has overseen the greatest expansion of the federal government in history, and all those new AFSCME drones moved to Virginia, transforming Northern Virginia from solidly Republican to solidly Democrat in a space of just a few short years.

This story is all over the local Radio talk shows here in DC this morning. Their spin is this tactic will lead to voter intimidation. The unions have their “card check” system replacing secret ballot elections for a union. Card check is where you have sign your ballot in the presence of a union organizer before the election-no secret ballot.I see this is more of a privacy issue that voter intimidation issue. Would the GOP not have the information to target voters in this case?

No, what this is indicative of is the GOP knows it has crap for a candidate in Guiliani, they realize his nomination will drive voters off. They’re trying to secure “pledge voters” in hopes those who are foolish enough to commit will be more bound by their word than their conviction of principle so they won’t turn to third party or a write-in candidate.

Only idiotic fools would employ this tactic, the GOP has its share of them...

“...Honorable Virginians do not give their word lightly and will not lie, even under these obtuse circumstances. We hope, too, that they put candidates’ ideas, character and experience ahead of party affiliation...”

Once AGAIN- Republicans/Conservatives have their problem:

We TELL those in office and runing that if you do NOT Stay true to Conservative principles or have already sold us out we will boy-cott the vote!

Do Liberals EVER think in their little minds NOT to vote
Liberal/Democrat for the same stand up, moral and righteous reasons conservatives stand for?? NO!! Their Reasoning is THEY Preach the DANGERS of letting any Conservatives in the W.H. for 4 more years!! The DEms have ALWAYS been so unified that way THEY are the “BORGS” of Politics-NOT the Republicans,

Why don’t Conservatives/Republicans realize that although “FEELING MORALLY SUPERIOR and smug with ourselves when we don’t Vote (And therefore LET The DEms/Libs win) we are LETTING the Dems win?

Don’t Conservatives realize that if some DEMS were to even MENTION that THEY “ Need a third party..” That That said persn would be found floating the the ocean and sleeping with the fishes!!

WE End up getting Little, spoiled oil barons that look like Elmer Fudd that ALLOW Clinton to get into office in the first place!

Primary voters must sign loyalty oaths

Catch-22 is becoming more relevant with every passing day.

While I have a healthy amount of scorn for the Republican Party of Virginia, this article is misleading. There is no "loyalty oath." The statement merely says (and I paraphrase) that, "at the time of this primary, my intent is to support the GOP nominee."

Yup, we saw how binding the words "my intent is" with Larry Craig.

While I think this is unnecessary, I don't have a big problem with it, as I would NEVER vote for a RAT. Unless his name were Zell Miller, and I don't think that is gonna happen.

If this is actually true, I can’t imagine the national GOP wouldn’t squelch this.

> There’s a reason for this because Democrats can skew the results in what amounts to an “open primary”, but it does seem silly.

It’s completely silly. A Dim with no morals whatsoever can dash in and pull the primary lever for Rooty with no pangs of conscience about voting for Her Thighness in 08 despite the oath. Meanwhile, a morally upright Republican conservative feels he can’t vote in the primary because he’d be bound by his oath that he might have to vote for the Lib GOP candidate.

BEYOND ‘tarded. Who the HECK came up with this genius idea??? It’s stupid AND insulting.

I for one would gladly sign that oath...if I had a shred of confidence that the “GOP” would uphold their oath to protect our Constitution.

The current open border crowd residing in the Whitehouse and Congress seem to forget the oath that they swore when elected to their positions.

Yeah, that makes sense. Bush spent too much, so people didn't like that and joined a party that would spend even more.

A loyalty oath is non-binding...

I take it you think your word is non-binding too. Honest people take their word seriously, so this says a lot about you; thanks for the warning.

"Though there is scant evidence such crossover voting ever influences elections"

Go back to 1976 and see what cross over voting did for Ronald Reagan. As regards Rudy, the more I learn about him, the less respect I have for him. Adulterer, draft-dodger, and since we supposedly share the same faith certainly a disgrace to his baptism. I can see how many people may take a pass if the choice is between to degenerates.

That’s not at all what I said. Northern Virginia is the DC suburbs. In the past several years, the population of Northern Virginia has exploded, mostly driven by the expansion of the federal gvernment, as well as due to the importation of hundreds of thousandds of ilegal aliens. These new government workers vote 90% Democratic.

I do think many fiscal conservatives who are otherwise fairly liberal did see no reason to support President Bush, and I do think many other conservatives simply sat on their hands. But that’s a different debate. Or are you of the belief that the nation went Democratic because Bush was *too* conservative?

It’s the new “macaca”, then, I guess. I lived in Boston in the late 90s. Iwas aghast to see what seemed to be what you call the “card check” system in place then.

The point is that it is NOT a “loyalty oath”. It makes no promise to vote Republican. All it states is that the voters present intent is to vote Republican. If the voter was sincerely surprised that an unacceptable candidate won the election, they could vote for another party without violating their statement of intent.
