What a bizarre statement. She makes it sound like it was a choice he made that she didn't approve of.

Exactly. Or a choice that his parents made that she didn't approve of. Ironically, she replicated the very scenario which she appears to mock or, at the very least, question.

I’ll add a couple:

I wouldn’t accept either of them. Both are very weird families. She, Ms. Obama was complaining about her husbands body odor a while back and how the kids won’t come into her bedroom when he was there. (weird, weird and weird.)

I saw a store clerk whose name was Crawfish. Seriously. What kind of mother names her daughter Crawfish?

I watched Oprah Winfrey's program yesterday about the logistics of moving her "Favorite Things" show from Chicago to Macon.

Oprah is a genius. About that there is no question.

The sheer organization--the ability to select such competent people in such huge numbers--the imagination--the energy--the ability to pull such a thing off in total secrecy--any one of these requires a certain genius.

I sat there thinking: If Oprah can accomplish all that she has accomplished in her life, she just might be able to put Barack Obama in the White House.

If she sets her mind to it, focuses her attention and brain power on it, and campaigns hard enough for him--I think she can do it.

I know very little about Obama, and what I know isn't impressive, but I know plenty about Oprah Winfrey, and, not only is she impressive, but she is not to be underestimated.

I know of a baby delivered at the children’s hospital at the University of Chicago who was named Marijuana Pepsi (lastname) by her “mother” who said those were the only two things she could tolerate during her pregnancy. I kid you not.

So I go, “No way!”

And she goes, “Fer sure!”

And I go, “Smack!”

Thank you for the interview Ms. First Lady (not!)

From Wikipedia:

Michelle Robinson was born to Frasier Robinson (who died in 1990[1]), a city pump operator and Democratic precinct captain, and Marian Robinson, a secretary at Spiegel’s catalog store;[2] she grew up in the South Shore area of Chicago.[3] Her brother, Craig, is 16 months older than she is. Both children skipped the second grade.[4] She graduated from Whitney Young High School in 1981.[5] She majored in sociology with a minor in African American studies at Princeton University, graduating cum laude in 1985,[citation needed] and obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School in 1988.[6]

She married Barack Obama in 1992, and they have two daughters, Malia (born 1999) and Sasha (born 2001).[7] Her brother Craig is Brown University men’s basketball coach.[8] She is 5’11” tall (180 cm).[9]

Career

Following law school, she was an associate at the Chicago branch of the law firm Sidley Austin where she first met her husband. At the firm, she worked on marketing and intellectual property and was assigned as Barack Obama’s summer advisor.[10] Subsequently, she held public sector positions in the Chicago city government as an Assistant to the Mayor and Assistant Commissioner of Planning and Development. In 1993 she became Executive Director for the Chicago office of Public Allies, a non-profit organization encouraging young people to work on social issues in nonprofit groups and government agencies.[5]

Obama served as the Associate Dean of Student Services at the University of Chicago since 1996 where she developed the University’s Community Service Center.[11] She then worked for the University of Chicago Hospitals beginning in 2002, first as executive director for community affairs and, beginning May, 2005, as Vice President for Community and External Affairs at the University of Chicago Hospitals.[12]

Which is precisely why I dislike her and what she stands for.

Has nothing to do with her race.

Has nothing to do with her sex.

Has nothing to do with her success.

It has EVERYTHING to do with her views on things like marriage and the role of the state. She is a socialist through and through, but only because capitalism has given her a lot of good things.

I would rather see anyone in the White House than Hillary, and that includes Obama. Not that I want to see him there, just that Hillary is at the very bottom of a very deep barrel.

Obama is just an average leftwinger. Mrs Clinton is a communist, who reminds me of Lara’s husband, Pasha, in Doctor Zhivago.

No flexibility or compromise in her.

from the movie:
Pasha: The private life is dead - for a man with any manhood.
Zhivago: I saw some of your ‘manhood’ on the way at a place called Mink.
Pasha: They were selling horses to the Whites.
Zhivago: It seems you’ve burnt the wrong village.
Pasha: They always say that, and what does it matter? The village is burned, the point made.
Zhivago: Your point - their village.

He was biracial. I was like, okay, what's that about?

I find that to be really insulting. I do. His parents were black and white that is 'what that's about.' What is hard to understand about that? And I find the statement insulting because Mrs. Obama is given a 'pass' on noting and questioning Obama's heritage. What if Mrs. Obama were white and she questioned her husband's mixed heritage? No colorblind should be colorblind...

EVERYTHING that Oprah has accomplished is due to capitalism.

What a bizarre statement. She makes it sound like it was a choice he made that she didn't approve of.

It's a situation that "enlightened black opinion" doesn't approve of - she's just sounding a note of sympathy with her "sistas" who have seen a large number of higher quality black men go off to date and marry white women.

it’s the hypocrisy about protected groups we live in....

Obama has acted “white” most his life just like Halle Berry and look how clumsy they are when they have to show some “cred”

What I find hurtful, in Obama's case, is the he was raised by his white (albeit, uberliberal) grandparents. There seemingly is no acknowledgement of that relationship. Honor both families equally. As in his wife's statement, the maternal gene pool is easily dismissed...half white? what's up with that?
