This all reminds me....my Dad died three months ago; suppose I need to let somebody at the registrar’s office in on it...
You can check with them but don’t be surprised if the mortuary (an assumption on my part) contacted the county election office about your father’s passing when they recieved the signed death certificate. Some mortuaries will even contact local newspapers with obit statements you’ve provided.
