My heart weeps, my soul rejoices, my hands pray for his family. The good news is that we are reborn in Christ and given a perfect body.

A great man. An ordinary lawyer/politician in his early life. A champion for human life in his later life.

Eternal rest, grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him. May he and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

Amen.

RIP Henry Hyde. You were truly a great American.

I am deeply saddened to hear it. He served faithfully for decades and was such a champion of the pro life movement. Sad that he had such a short time after retiring before he passed away. I suppose if he had run for reelection last year we would be looking at another unfortunate vacancy now. Hopefully his successor Rep Roskam will serve for many years.

Catch the Falling Flag “What we are telling you today,” said Chairman Hyde, “are not the ravings of some vast right-wing conspiracy, but a reaffirmation of a set of values that are tarnished and dim these days, but it is given to us to restore them so our Founding Fathers would be proud.” Deeply critical of the President’s conduct in allegedly lying to a grand jury and obstructing justice through other means, Hyde closed with a peroration directed not so much at his colleagues in Congress as to all of us.

“It’s your country,” said Hyde, “the President is our flag-bearer, out in front of our people. The flag is falling my friends — I ask you to catch the falling flag as we keep our appointment with history.”

He distinguished himself as a politician. That is quite an accomplishment given the nature of politics.

My favorite memory of Congressman Hyde was during a Congressional debate on Nicaragua. Sen. Dodd was a Congressman at that time, arguing to negotiate with the Sandinistas.

It was just after Dodd and his lady friend had been robbed at gunpoint on his way to Gracie Mansion in NYC.

Cong. Hyde asked Cong. Dodd if he had tried to negotiate with his muggers!

Hillary’s FBI files have worked well for her. Little known (or at least little discussed) is the fact that when Linda Tripp saw the FBI files being keyed into the WHO database, those were not ALL republicans. Hillary has dirt on the democrats, too. I honestly think that Bob Kerrey (NE) was ready to run for President and she threatened to let out the Viet Nam - baby killer - message. Kerrey was highly electable as he had shown in NE which is a very RED state. She didn’t want an electable candidate running against Bush so she dumped the Viet Nam story into the pool of man-eaters who surround her. Do I have ANY proof? No.

If you know Hillary, however, she gets most of the black caucus support in DC. Why not Obama? Because they know full well what would happen to their career when she is elected. And they all know she is the selection of the ‘in’s in DC.

The Very Honorable Henry Hyde was the epitome of a gentleman and (in spite of some efforts to besmirch his reputation) is the end of an era of Great Men.

I loved this man, I offer condolences to his family and grieve for him with pride in his accomplishments.

May He lift him up on Eagles' wings, bear him on the break of dawn... Make him to shine like the sun and hold him in the Palm of His Hands.

Eternal Rest Grant unto him, O Lord and Let Perpetual Light shine upon him.
