DC officials challenged to cite behavioral cause of HIV's skyrocketing rates Ed Thomas OneNewsNow.com November 28, 2007
A spokeswoman for the public policy group Concerned Women For America (CWA) is warning that a new report detailing Washington, DC's extensive rate of HIV and AIDS should not exclude the prominent cause of the problem -- an increase in cultural promiscuity.
While establishing that previous rates of HIV infection (1 out of 20) and AIDS (1 out of 50) are still valid, the 120-page report also served as the basis for health official Dr. Shannon Hader's statement that "HIV is everybody's disease." Hader made her statement to The Washington Post. The report also led to DC Mayor Adrian Fenty's statement that the HIV\AIDS problem should be addressed with a sense of urgency that the "epidemic" deserves.
Dr. Janice Crouse of CWA's think tank, the Beverly LaHaye Institute, says use of the report is "distressing" because those who are at risk for exposure to HIV/AIDS are primarily those engaging in sex with an infected person, those sharing a contaminated needle, or those who come into contact with the fluids of an infected person -- such as a healthcare worker. "Those are the only ways you can get HIV/AIDS. And to say [that] everybody is susceptible, everybody can get it, the new face of AIDS is heterosexual women -- these are all just half-truths," she argues.
They also omit, Crouse says, the factors that conservatives and abstinence advocates warn are primarily responsible -- promiscuity and drug use; practices, she says, that are expanding the infection rate for DC residents of all races and gender. "If you don't engage in either of those behaviors [promiscuity and drugs], you're not going to get AIDS. It's a behavioral problem," she states.
It’s a behavioral problem,”
“If you don’t engage in either of those behaviors [promiscuity and drugs], you’re not going to get AIDS. It’s a behavioral problem,” she states.....Don’t need to be a rocket scientist on this one....
Its a behavioral problem
The elephant in the room the size of Texas is not mentioned. Needles, drugs, promiscuity and....what?
I cite my own tagline in this case!
At least the woman claiming ‘its everybody’s disease’ has been publicly identified.
I greatly appreciate knowing who the fools are before I might happen across them.
I had a talk with my daughter about this when I saw she thought AIDS was like the common cold. This shows how effective the “AIDS is everyone’s problem” mantra has been.
Current statistics still show it primarily affects homosexual men.
This needs to be looked into!
If people would follow the Judeo/Christian/Muslim prescription for sex only within mariage, every STD would be eliminated from Earth in one generation.
Evidently DC’s gun control laws weren’t strict enough.
The rap culture is enamored with self destruction. It’s like a culture wide mental illness.
How come when the ‘gay community’ or ‘gay activists’ speak up on public health issues it is almost always about HIV and not about cancer or lupus or MS?
Is anyone going to have the guts to mention the pervasiveness of the “down low” in the african american community?
The cause is because they havent had a tattoo just below the belt saying AIDS.
Because most fudgepackers don't live long enough to get cancer, lupus or MS.
Yet we need to spend countless untold billions upon billions of dollars to find a cure at the expense of research on other diseases.
Cultural Promiscuity? Is that like when Italians go to the Cinco De Mayo food fair?
I’d like to see the Feds just start buying property...block by block in DC...and tear down housing. Its time to just push people out of the city...and open up massive parks. Make them live outside of the district and run the rail or the bus into the district. This is stupid to play this game of the government having to sponsor the district because of stupidity.
