Haven’t seen him jump in a while but he’s pretty good.

My brother and I both had one of those Evel Knievel motorcycle toys.

Those were awesome.

I remember when he was being interviewed by Jim Rome and was asked why he would perform a stunt where he knew he had a 50% chance of dying and he replied “Do you know who I am?”

Classic.

RIP Evel “Freaking” Knieval

I also had one around that time. I actually saw one of these, new in the box (as in, they’re actually making them again) at a Menards store in Wisconsin. This was last month! Weird timing, eh?

He was asked about some of his dangerous jumps and that if he knew he had a coin’s flip of dying, then why do it? His response was a serious “Do you know who the hell I am?” I think I heard God fall out of his chair in heaven. What a straight up badass. He apparently wants to do one more jump 60 feet longer than his longest. 60 friggin feet. He isn’t afraid to die “Nope...lookin forward to it....and I’m not suicidal.” Dude is flat out nailz. - posted by someone on another blog.

After one particular police chase in 1956 in which he crashed his motorcycle, Knievel was taken to jail on a charge of reckless driving. When the night jailer came around to check the roll, he noted Robert Knievel in one cell and William Knofel in the other. Knofel was well known as “Awful Knofel,” so Knievel began to be referred to as Evel Knievel. The nickname stuck.

I saw him when he testified on TV during Schuller's service that day. It was a very moving moment, and it was clear that he was a changed man. I'm glad that he found Jesus before he died.

RIP, Evel.

Had a long, steep hill right by my house on Griffiss AFB in New York when I was about 10 and we did the same thing. Just about broke my tailbone when we did it with me sitting Tail End Charlie on a 4-man toboggan! Some of my favorite memories, trying to find something that came close to the F101 Voodoos my dad was flying at the time.
