Hunter is right to deal with China as the security threat it is. Id like to hear more of the candidates come out strongly against China. But China has its own economic problems, more severe than our own. They are no more going to bury us economically than the Soviet Union did or Japan did.
We are not on the precipice. Millions of Americans are not facing imminent unemployment and destitution, and its only because too many of us unthinkingly buy into emotionally-charged, agenda-driven MSM spin that we can possibly think so.

-The only economic problem China has, is its a Communist Country. If it were truly a Capitalist society they would have overtaken the US in GDP by now.
-Emotionally charged blah blah blah. If I were emotionally charged I would be a Paulite, who votes against ALL FTA. Whereas Hunter only votes for FTA’s with countries that benefit America. Countries that aren’t corrupt or communist, and ironically don’t have dirt low PPP per capita, maybe not being corrupt or Communist has something to do with it. naaaaa.
We have no disagreements on Hunter. He’s a good man and a good, consistent conservative. But his being a good conservative doesn’t mean that there are no other good conservatives in the race. There are three, any one of which would be a good President.

Free trade/Immigration while anhilate the middle class and get Democrats elected for at least 1 generation.
I agree with you on illegal immigration, because one of the reasons the Dems want them legalized is so they can vote Dem. Poor, uneducated and easily manipulated people are a natural Dem constituency. But free trade with only a few reasonable restrictions to level the playing field, as the Founding Fathers envisioned, is one of the natural rights protected by the Constitution.
BTW, there’s no such thing as a perfect conservative. Mature people realize that unless they run for office, they will always have at least a few policy disagreements with any candidate.
I love Hunter, and would happily vote for him, but I have to admit that his fiscal conservative bona fides are less than stellar. He has voted for some pretty egregious spending bills, including No Child Left Behind, the budget busting Medicare Drug Bill and the pork-larded 2005 Highway Bill. Whenever Bush43 has had the taxpayers’ checkbook out, Hunter has usually been right behind him offering a pen.
No candidate is perfect, not Thompson, not Hunter. But as conservatives, they are head and shoulders above the rest.
Obama, contrasted to Fred, will appear very youthful and along with the resounding call to elect the nations first black president, Obama will win.
Thompson is hardly a Reagan conservative either, neither in reality or practice. There were a number of conservative leaders both in and out of government spawned by the Reagan revolution. Thompson wasn't one of them.
Arguments such as yours above are tiresome. This race is one of the most open and unusual races in my life time, and Reagan conservatives are split among the varied candidates, most having solid reasons for choosing their candidate. It is impossible, shallow and even silly to believe, using those choices alone, that one can sufficiently determine whether or not such conservatives are/were REAL Reagan conservatives.
As a college student, having learned much about conservatism at the feet of Reagan during his presidential tenure, don't EVER level that accusation at me.
I just saw your above comment and agree. Ronald Reagan himself wouldn't level such ridiculous charges, at his conservative brethren.
Your the one who introduced the word RINO in your discussion with Redgirl, who never used that word to describe Fred. RG however, did point out, Fred’s record is not quite as conservative as many would have us believe.
Well, there is Duncan Hunter, who was soldiering on in Congress while Fred was acting.
I too was in college during most of Reagan’s tenure, and indeed was at my most active politically, except for my early 30s.
You support Mitt, who even at one point in time specifically said he was not wishing to follow Regan/Bush ideas. He was more “independent’ if I recall the quote correctly.
He may well have matured since then, but to date it is only in words, and the proof is in deeds. I wish to not take the risk.
You obviously did not listen to Reagan’s lessons well. I will stick with those who “graduated” from the era such a Rush, McClintock and others.
