Worst thing that ever happened to the Vikings was Christianity.

Who wants to go raping, pillaging, burning and thieving when you’re going to end up in Hell?

How does this Beowulf film compare to the one that was done just in the last few years?

Both for accuracy to the text and any anti-Christian bias?

I saw this film and in my opinion it DOES NOT contain anti-Christian ideas. There were a few references to the Christian god and Jesus and the queen was portrayed as wearing a crucifix and being true to her husband.

I recently saw the movie “Chuck & Larry” with Adam Sandler and Kevin James. It promotes gay marriage and depicts Christians as bigoted unattractive losers. I have become used to that, but what disturbed me is that Adam Sandlers character physically assaults one of the Christian protesters (for screaming fagot!)to the delight of everyone. Now, I presume it is now socially acceptable to bash, literally, Christians, but what would be the reaction if the tables were turned? Let’s say a well known actor pummeled in the face of a gay marching in a gay rights parade for screaming “Breeder!” He’d never work again.

Where is the “Oh, Jeez!” guy? This is just getting stupid. Can’t tell perpetually offended conservatives from perpetually offended liberals these days. Attention whores, all.

These thngs are happening with greater frequency because we allowed ourselves to sit back, do nothing, and let it happen. There is now open season on Christians and the only way to stop it is to fight back. Excusing or ignoring the behavior of atheists and their ilk isn’t part of God’s plan. We are commanded to go unto the world and baptize INO the Father Son and Holy Spirit.

Sitting on the sidelines and rope-a-doping isn’t going to cut it. People of faith need to vote for values and vote with their pocketbooks. This stuff has to stop.

Hold it right there!! The story of Beowulf is essentially a pre-Christian story, so calling it "anti-Christian" doesn't make sense here.

I saw Beowulf, and I'm gonna go see The Golden Compass. This hype that these movies are anti-Christian is just so much BS, that those making a big deal out of this are losing so much credibility that when something really anti-Christian comes out, nobody at all will listen to their objections. They're doing the same thing they accuse the other side of doing by arguing that either Bush or man-made global warming is the cause of all ills. These movies are nothing more than pure fantasy. Give me a break!

Flame away!

Beowulf - Anti-Christian Crusade
National Review Online ^ | November 30, 2007 |
Raymond Ibrahim

Ah, it’s a small world after all.
“Raymond Ibrahim” is the same fellow that has authored
“The Al Queda Reader”.
Ibrahim is the son of Coptic Christian Egyptians that immigrated to
the USA...and he was a student of Victor Davis Hanson at Freson State U.
(VDH wrote the forward to The Al Queda Reader.)

I’m reading the book right now...it is THE authoritative translation
from Arabic of what Osama bin Laden and Ayman Al-Zawahiri actually
have written and said in interviews.

Anybody who actually reads it know we’ve got to kill these two pukes and/or
as many as possible of their disciples.
They ask us to leave Saudi Arabia, we do, they still want to kill us.
In other words, no matter what we (The West) do, they want us to die,
submit or convert. There is no other option.

I’ve not seen Beowulf. For the posters that feel Ibrahim is “reaching”
to make his point, it could be that the experiences of his parents
in an Islamic culture has colored his view of how Christianity is treated.

Beowulf is the latest installment in Hollywood’s attempt to reconfigure history

Exactly how, specifically, is Beowulf anti-Christian?

I have no doubt that the "epic of Gilgamesh” will in time follow this endeavor from Hollywood, and that there will be similar protests.

Meanwhile, I hope to see Spiderman4 become a reality.

It’s strange seeing the number of Freepers who see nothing wrong with the popular media disparaging Christianity.

It’s as if they’ve surrendered, like the battle was too much and they adopted the attitude of “Oh well, so they slur God and Christians...that doesn’t bother me any,” rather than fighting for our common culture and beliefs, which were, to this point at least, Christian.

As for me, I wouldn’t go see The Golden Compass, whose author is a virulent anti-Christian, if they gave me $1,000.00.

I got the idea from the movie that Christianity saved them from the dark forces of demons.

Not that I really believe in either - but lean towards Christianity as the far better of the two.

I saw the movie and did NOT see any anti Christian messagae. What I did see was more graphic carnage than I cared to see and I thought it a bit to UGLY at times.

But it was not a bad tale and did show consequences of not keeping one's oath.

The old monster movies could be just as scary without being so totally graphically appalling.

But hey, that's just me. My better half(a very respectable lady) loved it.

The idea being that pagan peoples — unencumbered by the suffocating forces of Christianity — were/are happy, passionate folk, able to live life to the fullest.

This is getting ridiculous to the extreme.

I assume the author is being sarcastic, as if to say the nonbeliever is really hampered by a lack of religion and Hollywood is misrepresenting the truth.

They attacked one movie recently for the singular reason that is was penned by a Atheist.

I've had it with this culture war crap....Enough already! Don't we have more substantive things to discuss?

If you don't like the product, don't buy it.

There are at least two of these "anti-Christian crusade" posts in FR today, following past posts against Harry Potter, the Rings trilogy, and a half dozen comic strips.

Beowulf is a dark story, boring to read but one of the basics for a long, long, time. Most (under 40) whom I've talked to didn't even know the story, didn't link it to the Thirteenth Warrior or any other film or book (I liked "Grendel") but were hyped on the special effects.

For crying out loud, let people see the films and make up their own minds! Christians don't need to force their individual interpretation on other Christians or other believers - that has been tried in the past with poor results.

It is also precisely what we blame islam for, only without the beheadings and such...

Oh please. Beowulf predates Hollywood liberalism - and his paganism was always a part of the epic poem.

This screed is about as ridiculous as someone claiming making a movie about Greek mythology would be "anti-Christian."

Not only is Christianity fundamentally responsible for what many a Western liberal takes for granted — that is, the freedom and advancements of Western civilization — but also for much of the historical record from which movie-makers are able to exploit, warp, and subsequently rake in millions, was compiled by Christians. It is no small irony that the one single solitary manuscript that contains the text of Beowulf was written by a monk, and preserved in a monastery for centuries.

You mean freedom and civilization aren't just parts of the natural environment? Something liberals pluck from the trees like low hanging fruit?

It never ceases to amaze me that some people’s faith is so weak, that its threatened by books and movies.
