"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberalsif we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is." - Ronald Reagan, 1975
Unfortunately, you probably think that America is better off that way.
There’s certainly no doubt in my mind that they are, yes.
This is the part where collective faints and gasps commences, right?
Nice to sucker some Dems into supporting a limited-government, low-tax, anti-UN, anti-illegal-immigration Second Amendment supporter for a change, rather than the usual pattern of Republicans suckered into supporting yet another RINO.
I have a lot of respect for Dr. Keyes. Maybe if he wouldn't have violated the Peter principle by running for 3 Senate and 3 presidential races, he could have been in some higher-level role, either in government or the RNC.
Actually, they’re not the suckers. Ron Paul is nothing more than their willing tool at this point.
Cozying up with evil never leads to anything good.
Maybe Rudy should have held his itty-bitty "rally" indoors somewhere. Marietta Square is public property.
You really have no idea what Dr. Keyes is about. If he had wanted to be a tool of the unprincipled DC elites, he could have had just about anything he asked for a very long time ago.
"Now, I cant say that I will agree with all the things that the present group who call themselves Libertarians in the sense of a party say, because I think that like in any political movement there are shades, and there are libertarians who are almost over at the point of wanting no government at all or anarchy. I believe there are legitimate government functions. There is a legitimate need in an orderly society for some government to maintain freedom or we will have tyranny by individuals." -Ronald Reagan
Why would anyone be surprised that Ron Paul would fly under false colors and betray the Republican Party?
What relevance does that have to the general thrust of the point? Ron Paul is not in favor of no government, he’s in favor of CONSTITUTIONAL government.
Ron Paul supported Reagan for president over Ford in 1976. Do you revile Reagan?
bingo
Hello, he got used by the IL GOP to be the sacrificial lamb against Obama, and he didn't receive support from the elites then. At the very least he could have gotten a cabinet position or even the RNC Chairman spot.
Running for six offices and losing accomplished what, exactly? A Guinness book entry?
Are you in agreement with Ron and his "Truther" followers that our war on terror is unconstitutional?
Well, in some part. But, he's the primary source point for what I call "the Ron Paul disease," which unfortunately has been adopted by most of this awful Republican field, as some kind of fake, pseudo-federalist credential. That's the idea that states' rights trump the unalienable right to life. It's a Stephen A. Douglas democrat, Jerry Ford RINO, position. One that negates any good he might claim to want to do.
Maybe. Btw, in case there was any misunderstanding, I’m with you. I was just commenting on these elderly folks who support Giuliani. I think they either haven’t looked any farther than what they’ve heard on the boob tube... or they don’t care that he’s pretty much a Democrat pretending to be a Republican. Hmm, if it’s the latter, maybe I take back what I said about them having good intentions.
You really are clueless.
