No lights. No cameras. Just our microphones -- and your questions.

On Dec. 4 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET, NPR and Iowa Public Radio will host a Democratic presidential candidates' debate.

We received more than 1,600 questions from the public, and we'll put some of them to the candidates. Browse through the questions below and tune in for answers from Des Moines on Dec. 4!

Note: NPR is working with the leading Republican candidates to schedule a debate for early 2008.

TOPICS: Culture/Society; News/Current Events; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: 2008; 2008elections; canidates; debates; elections
This links to the potential debate questions for tomorrows democratic "debate". I wonder which ones will actually get asked, and which won't.

& when it's the Republican's turn, the selected questions will be as antagonistic as those from CNN/YouTube...

Be interesting to see if they really ask the Democrats any serious questions about their position on Illegal Immigration. It is the 1st issue listed at the link but most of the comments posted don’t really have anything to do with Immigration.

They are planning a Republican “debate” in January, perhaps they will also prepost the questions for that debate, (but somehow I doubt they will). At least in this case we have a chance to see the raw questions they are considering, and then choosing from. The choices they make will tell the story.

As a spin-off of Kerr’s inquisition, directed to Clinton:

“I would like to know why you think open gays and lesbians would remain professional enough to serve with our men and women in uniform in a combat setting.”

My favorite question so far

"I think that we should be nicer to China since we get so many things made from them."

A thread on Peggy Noonan's column last week had the question that I would love to be asked at the Dem debate:

"Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Obama, Mr. Edwards, this is a human fetus (holding up a picture). Given a few more months, it will be a baby you could hold in your arms. You all say you're 'for the children.' I would ask you to look America in the eye and tell us how you can support laws to end this life. Thank you."

“Do you believe that the Constitution is a ‘living document’ subject to change by the opinion of 5 out of 9 unaccountable, appointed for life judges?”

“Followup question - would you enter into a business contract with anyone who said the contract was a living document subject to the interpertation of the other interested party?”

Would you use big bombs, including Nuclear bombs, to minimize and eliminate American Troop deaths?

Really want a serious debate?

Give each candidate 5 minutes. Make them answer any one of the following questions. Feel free to subside Illegal Immigration, Taxes, Federal Spending, Social Security Reform, Health Care or any other REAL issue (as opposed to phony ones like Gays in the Military) in place of Energy Policy.

Candidate X, as you know oil prices are sky rocketing. The American people will face a serious problem in the coming years paying for the energy they use. Tell us what YOU plan to do as President to achieve Energy Independence for the USA?

Do not in any way refer to either the current Administration or any of you opponents in your answer. Tell us what YOU would do as President to address the issue.

Be warned, If you fail to actually answer the question and instead try to duck the issue by making a meaningless campaign speech, your microphone will be turned off an we will add you time to one of your opponents.

It's a given that NPR consists of libloons. I won't mind if the Republicans are asked antagonistic questions...but only if the Democrats are as well...

Candidate X, you are obviously an articulate and sophisticated user of English. Would you please identify the operative clause and subordinate clause in the following: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Candidate Y: Why should you be entrusted with the Nation’s security as CinC, given your positions to undermine the role during your term in the Senate?

Candidate Z: What aspects of American life does NOT fall under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government, particularly WRT the Commerce and General Welfare clauses? How should the 10th Amendment be properly applied to Federal regulatory agencies run by the White House?

Questions for the Democrat Debate: For NPR:

1) Mrs. Clinton - When will you allow full homosxul relations in the military and rescind your husband's "Don't ask don't tell" policy.

2.) Mr. Obama - How will you reassure Pakistan, once you are president, that you will not Nuke them?

3.) Mr. Edwards - You have stated that you will take companies profits by force. What Military or Police forces will you use to do this?

4.) Mrs. Clinton - You proposed $5000 dollars for pregnant women of other countries to come to the United States to have their babies. What effect do you see this having on Illegal Immigration?

When I hear they will ask one of these questions, I will listen to NPR again. I'm waiting.

Note: NPR is working with the leading Republican candidates to schedule a debate for early 2008.

No more PHONEY DEBATES with the enemy within!

Let's have a real, dignified REPUBLICAN debate.

-- Have C-span film and air the debate to repeat at various times of the day and night.
-- Rush Limbaugh should be the host, posing the questions to the candidates.
-- A distinguished panel of Republican party leaders and republican/conservative media personnel to cull the questions with the goal of producing respectable, pertinent questions for the candidates.
-- Questions should be collected by known republican/conservative/libertarian personnel and organizations to be submitted to the panel.

No more 3-ring circuses masquerading as a debate!
These "debates" should be for the edification of the voting public. Not some farce perpetrated by the enemies of the party and the country.

These so-called debates are the only chance the masses will have to interview the candidates for the highest position in the land and the leader of the free world. To reduce it to a joke is disgusting.

EVERY candidate should be asked the same question and given EQUAL time to respond, Alan Keyes and John Cox included.

NO MORE enemedia fiascos. Our country is too important to allow the selection of its leader to be demeaned.
