With less than a month to go before the Iowa caucuses, the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that Rudy Giuliani has fallen back in the pack in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination. Giulianis support has fallen to 18% and four other candidates are within six percentage points of the lead. Mike Huckabee is enjoying an amazing surge and now shares the top spot with Giuliani at 18%. Close behind are John McCain at 14%, Fred Thompson at 13%, and Mitt Romney at 12%. Ron Paul attracts 7% of Likely Republican Primary voters nationwide and no other Republican candidate reaches 2% (see recent daily numbers).
“A minister running for office is a man who has either abandoned his calling.”
Blue, pray tell how do you know the Lord didn’t call Mike Huckabee to serve in the ministry for a season, and then call him for a different season to take that experience (and witness) into the public policy arena?
Blue, my favorite line in the movie “Amazing Grace” is when the anti-slavery activists met with Wilberforce and said:
“We understand you are having difficulty deciding whether to serve God or to be a political activist. May we humbly suggest, you can do both.”
That's what you get for mixing barbituates and Night Train.
Yeah, around 11:30, I was trying to correct myself but my DSL was Gone with the Wind.
“So (Huckabee’s) a populist southern Baptist. How is that different from Carter or Clinton?”
Hmmm...
Abortion.
Homosexual agenda.
Guns.
LLS
“When you have to lie to slam a man it says something. He did raise taxes but ...”
Yeah, good thing I don’t have to lie.
Tax-and-spend is a true description of tax hike Mike.

” Pawlenty and waited until a major piece of infrastructure collapsed”
There ya go, slamming a good conservative to defend tax-and-spending... You fall for the lie that you have to be a big spender to stop bridge collapses. A myth. The bridge was evaluated and found sound, dont fall for the socialist myths and blame lack of spending for everything.
“There ya go, slamming a good conservative to defend tax-and-spending..”
Performing maintenance on roads is not tax and spending. Clinton left the roads in crap shape and more than 29% of AK state roads needed major repair... Do you recommend debt spending for that?
Seriously how would you have fixed them?
My slam on Pawlenty is he was dead set against the gas tax until it became politically impossible to hold the position. I rather like pawlenty more so than anyone running right now. He was either wrong to oppose the gas tax hike (because we already had the money needed) or he was wrong to back off..
“dont fall for the socialist myths and blame lack of spending for everything.”
If Im falling for them than so is Pawlenty who is now not anywhere near as solid that the transportation dept has enough money as he was several months ago.
Shhhh dontcha know social conservative are supposed to shut the hell up... Just vote R and be damn happy for the opportunity to be marginalized by a good Republican administration..
Just saw that movie and loved it (despite its rather strong manipulation of event time lines)...
I disagree to this extent...
The ministry is (or should be) a calling not a profession.
I have severe and sincere trust issues with anyone who claims to be called to the cloth and then leaves said calling for ‘bigger’ things. There is nothing bigger.
I will say it again so you are clear on my position:
Either he has forsaken his true calling to join politics, or...
He was never truly called and professed his calling falsely.
I feel that neither man is to be trusted with the future of my country.
If only you could combine Fred’s mind with the Huckster’s personality.
Nothing wrong with Fred`s personality. The Huckster comes across like “Jimmah Clinton”, no thanks.
More importantly, Fred has a great conservative mind and a soild conservative record to boot.
“I will say it again so you are clear on my position:
Either he has forsaken his true calling to join politics, or...He was never truly called and professed his calling falsely.”
You were clear enough the first time.
And both the first and second time, I marvel that you’ve determined that God could not call someone to both the ministry and to public service. Is it written somewhere in Scripture that a call to the ministry is a life-long call, never to be superseded by a subsequent and equally legitimate call? Or is that just your thing?
Mike Huckabee has preached the Christian gospel, creation, the greatest commandment, and his personal witness on TV to more people in the last six months than he did in ten years behind a pulpit.
What claim do any of us have to limit how God can use someone who’s a willing vessel?
Really. Romney/Fred would be much better. Don't hit me. LOL.
Can the Fredheads and the Mittwits unite to defeat the Unholy Alliance?
Meanwhile he was lying, stealing........
I could support a Thompson/Romney ticket if it came to that. It would give me more time to learn to trust Mitt and see if he is indeed not pandering and also would leave him for later since he is younger. 12-16 years is better than 4-8...
Those three you picture scare me that much...
