Keyes: American ideal of self-government attacked
WorldNetDaily ^ | December 5, 2007

WND: What are the key issues you are raising in your campaign that other campaigns are not addressing?

Keyes: I think the major issue that faces the country right now is not being addressed by anyone and that is the fact that our system of self-government is under assault and is collapsing on every front, and not only is this not being addressed, I don't think the others who are in the race understand the nature of this crisis and of course if you don't see it, you're not going to be able to address this.

Each one seems to see pieces of it. Some will see the immigration and border security aspect of it; others will see the assault on the moral foundations; still others will profess to understand some elements of the destruction of the economic sovereignty of our people and the constitutional sovereignty. Nobody understands that these are not separate issues, that they are in fact symptoms of the crisis of the American republic, the question of whether government of, by and for the people is going to survive...

I think that that's being decided in this election. Unfortunately the choices available on the Republican side are not offering the alternative that is required if we are to meet this test.

WND: What is that answer that you're proposing?

Keyes: The answer is to restore the sovereignty of the American people, restore their moral sovereignty by addressing the moral issues like the abandonment of the basic principle that we are all created equal and endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights, therefore to reject the idea that we shall be separated as a country from our appeal to the Creator God, and therefore deprived of the very foundation that gives us the claim to be free.

Keyes is running for president again?

I’m afraid I’ll pass again.

Not that he isn’t a good colunist and orator.

Just wish he shake off this president bug he’s got.

Well, obviously that’s your right. Care to share which portions of his comments you disagree with? Please be specific, and keep it focused on the issues dealt with, if you can.

Same here. No one will doubt his passion, but he has shown absolutely zero political skills in his numerous failed runs.

Well, then obviously we should all vote for these skilled politicians, then...like Hillary, and Obama, and Giuliani...

Good article — bump.

(I’d offer a bump even if I didn’t think the article was good, b/c I believe Keyes should have been at the last debate).

He’s in the Des Moines Register debate next week.

I’m almost always in agreement with him on the issues. It’s his political career that’s embarassing.

I read it. I bookmarked it. I agree with his comments and wish more of our candidates displayed an inkling of knowledge about what he addressed.

I don’t support his candidacy, but Keyes really does lay it out there, and I appreciate that he does.

We’re whistling past the nation graveyard. I sure wish we could turn this boat around.

Maybe if we quit electing folks based on how slick they are as politicians, and looked a bit deeper, we’d be further ahead. Ya think?

Keyes is perhaps the most articulate of them all. He would have been an awesome force to behold if he was allowed to participate in the televised debates.

It was the networks...Fox, NBC, and CNN, who kept him out. Because the Republicans gave them the power to decide who is an acceptable Republican candidate and who is not. Pretty stupid if you ask me.

But, again, he’ll be in the biggest one of them all to date next Wednesday.

It’s being put on by the Des Moines Register and Iowa Public Television, but the word is that CNN, Fox and CSPAN are going to cover it live.

Good to hear. The Iowa Repubs and Fox News tried to exclude lower tier candidates from their debates earlier. We Duncan Hunter supporters, well at least I did, contacted them and gave them much grief about it. Well, OK, I just left a bunch of emails and phone messages. May have worked.
