An elderly man was found near an escalator in the store, and police said a young black man was being sought as the suspected shooter. Early indications were that as many as five people may be injured.
Colby Barak told KETV NewsWatch 7 that she was on lockdown inside Westroads Mall. She said she was doing Christmas shopping at Younkers, and an announcement was made that no one would be allowed to leave.
Just before 2 p.m., Barrett said, another announcement was made that shoppers could leave but would not be allowed back in.
Dozens of police and sheriff's cars were arriving at the mall.
A description of the shooter, broadcast over scanners, was that he was in an Army-green vest and was holding a rifle.
Another Westroads shopper, Kathy, told KETV NewsWatch 7 that she heard three pops. She said a Bath and Body Works manager approached her and told her to get out of the mall hallway as there was a situation, and a shooter had not been located.
Really? All day? Will it be open tomorrow? Can I shop where the dead bodies were? I mean, it'll be mopped up by then, right Dave?
You really found your calling in Corporate Communications, bud!
Just got into work here (it is Thursday morning here in Japan) and saw this....
The timing is dandy considering what the Supreme Court is discussing now. (handguns in D.C.) ‘Course this may assist with the case.
Reuters disgusts me.
I get the same error in both IE and FF. Strange...
It’s a Joke!
Tom Guy said KETV 7 is reporting the perp has been identified as Robert A. Hawkins of Bellview/Quail Creek.
Don’t know name of family who took him in...he has had brushes with LE so they could have been trying to help him, but I heard that he had been staying with them for quite some time.
maybe your focus should be on the dumb question being asked, not the answer
Thank you. I appreciate the advice.
Friend on phone to station is saying perp was on anti-depressants, dropped out of school 2 years ago, did not have any steady employment.
we were all Left Behind!
You could see that one coming....
Are they reporting that he was staying with another family other than his parents?
Could you qualify that with some facts?
While most .22s are lead tipped there are some with jackets or coatings over the lead. Most hand loads of all calibers are lead bullets while most factory ammunition has a copper jacket.
I would think a bullet would be no dirtier than the environment it was kept in.
I would worry more about debris like clothing parts carried in along with the bullet.
I jumped right to end of this thread to try and catch up and you ask the question that I want the answer to.
Was it a gun-free zone?
Anybody on this thread familiar with this shopping mall?
Thanks.....

That's what I'm hoping. Doesn't sound like the mall even had armed security. If security isn't armed...then what's the point of having them there?
KETV server must be getting hammered. I’ve having trouble keeping the stream going now - keeps cutting out.
That’s the first thing I thought too, the character from Jericho
Exactly! Read some of the earlier posts, folks couldn't wait to blame it on "coked up guys from the hood". I say let the cops do their job before jumping to conclusions.
