THis is what happens when you have a nation of “only children”. People that grow up without siblings, as the only child in the whole household, have a different perspective. That is, they think they are the center of the universe.
Actually, I should say all the European LEADERS with backbone (Margaret Thatcher excepted). I have met a number of Europeans and many of them are quite tough (British soccer holigans come to mind). However, their leaders are too timid by far. This attitude is no doubt an over-reaction intended to avoid another big European war. However, it is appeasement pure and simple and will cause a civil war one day that may make WWII pale in comparison.
I kind of agree with you about only children. However, from the point of view that they are more valuable and parents are less inclined to sacrifice them in war.
