"...the cost of inaction is on the high side and the cost of action is affordable..." - ROTFL

I'd be interesting to see the background of the signers. You know they are believers as most are in Bali.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the
populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to
safety) by menacing it with an endless series of
hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Was in Barnes & Noble today and in the Christian Book section of the store was a title in large bold letters you could not miss about 5 shelves up: GLOBAL WARMING

Thought, how odd!

How do you define a “leading scientist?” One who adheres to the anthropogenic theory of climate change?

Atmospheric concentrations of CO2 could be reduced with good chemical engineering and good research, in order to develop something to remove CO2 without drastically reducing emissions.

The climate scientists advocating this superregulation of industry are socialists.

“take radical measures to slow down global warming as “there is no time to lose.”

Because the climate looks like it is cooling right now! The megastorms predicted for 2006 were nonexistent, and 2007 hurricanes likewise did not meet predictions.

We must lock down the treaties RIGHT NOW before the sheeple wake up and stop us!

Over 200 of the leading climate scientists impelled government leaders to take radical measures to slow down global warming as “there is no time to lose.”
<<

In the 1930’s many leading scientists impelled government to take radical measures to slow down the reproduction of “undesirable” groups.

Quick! Cut back all fossil fuel consumption by 50% immediately! And while you are at it, increase jobs for the poor and lower middle class Democrat voters who will vote to put politicians/technocrats in power who will vote to increase fuel taxes by hundreds of percent to force consumption cuts aforementioned... but since the economy will crash and unemployment will skyrocket as a result, those Democrat voters will undoubtedly vote out the same clueless aparatchiks and vote back in someone sane, unless those ecotechnototalitarians
abrogate and defile the Constitution, and suspend all elections and civil rights in a desperate and criminal seizure of power. In that case... never mind.

"The appeal from scientists follows a petition last week from more than 150 global business leaders also demanding the 50 percent cut in greenhouse gases."

As usual, follow the money.

Here's the proper interpretation of the facts:

Shake-down artists (global business leaders) increase kick-backs to other shake-down artists (UN tin-pot dictators) to increase pressure on other shake-down artists (UN mystics aka 'scientists using GIGO computer models') to declare a grave crisis and prophesy the future.

A petition from at least 215 climate scientists calls for the world to cut in half greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

I'd be curious to know the actual disciplines of these 'climate scientists', and to know if their livelihood is dependent upon this 'government action'.
