From my email this morning:

Christian Coalition Action Alert

Roberta Combs, President
Wednesday, December 5, 2007

Democrat Leaders Want to Include Special Rights for Homosexuals as Embodied in a "Hate Crimes" Amendment to Critical Long Overdue Defense Bill Needed to Support American Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Democrat leaders in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate are jeopardizing the lives of our American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan by refusing to provide support and indeed funding for these American heroes. Just as outrageous, the Democrat leaders want to provide special rights for homosexuals by including a so-called "Hate Crimes" Amendment in the fiscal year 2008 Defense Authorization Conference Report, daring President Bush to veto the bill with this despicable amendment attached to it. It is urgent that Christian Coalition of America supporters immediately contact members of the Senate and House Conference Committee to tell them to vote NO on including the abominable "Hate Crimes" Amendment in the Defense bill.

There is only one remaining issue which the members of the House and Senate Conference Committee -- working on a compromise between the House version and the Senate version of the Defense Authorization bill -- are considering. And that is whether to include the Senate amendment expanding race-based hate-crime laws to include crimes committed against people because of their gender, sexual orientation, or disability. New penalties and new spending for state and local prosecutions of these so-called "hate crimes" are included in the Senate "Hate Crimes" Amendment.

ACTION Item: It is urgent that Christian Coalition of America supporters immediately contact the following members of the Senate and House Conference Committee who voted FOR the "Hate Crimes" Amendment to urge them to vote NO on including the abominable "Hate Crimes" Amendment in the Defense bill.

Senators: Carl Levin (Chairman) (D-Michigan): 202-224-6221; Robert Byrd (D-West Virginia): 202-224-3954; Joe Lieberman (I-Connecticut): 202-224-4041; Bill Nelson (D-Florida): 202-224-5274; Ben Nelson (D-Nebraska): 202-224 -6551; Evan Bayh (D-Indiana): 202-224-5623; Mark Pryor (D-Arkansas): 202-224-2353, Jim Webb (D-Virginia): 202-224-4024; Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri): 202-224-6154; John Warner (R-Virginia): 202-224-2023

Immediately call these Senators at 202-224-3121 or you can go to http://www.cc.org/contactcongress.cfm and urge them to not include the "Hate Crimes" Amendment in the Defense Authorization bill.

Representatives: Ike Skelton (Chairman) (D-Missouri): 202-225-2876; Solomon Ortiz (D-Texas): 202-225-7742; Vic Snyder (D-Arkansas) 202-225 -2506; John Spratt (D-South Carolina): 202-225-5501; Jim Cooper (D-Tennessee): 202-225-4311; Silvestre Reyes (D-Texas): 202-225-4831; Mark Udall (D-Colorado): 202-225-2161; Jim Marshall (D-Georgia): 202-225-6531; Jim Saxton (R-New Jersey): 202-225-4765 Immediately call these Members of the House of Representatives at 202-224-3121 or you can go to http://www.cc.org/contactcongress.cfm and urge them to not include the "Hate Crimes" Amendment in the Defense Authorization bill.

I am firmly against mucking with the Constitution -- but there are two Constitutional amendments re law-making that I believe are really needed:

  1. Line Item Veto. (Or, alternately, a requirement for single-issue bills...)

  2. No non-elected bureaucrat shall make any regulation that carries the force of law. (Think ATF & IRS, here...)

It amazes me a group (Militant/Activist) which only represents maybe less than
1% of the population can influence a legislator to insert some outlandish provision
into a bill that has nothing to do with the bill's original main objective?

"Hate crime" is the equivalent of abridging free speech, and that my friends is
where we all need to definately draw the line!

What these "stick & stones" ignoramous don't get is this legislation could cut both ways...

Given the lack of a Line Item Veto, IMHO, President Bush should hold the signing ceremony for this bill (on national TV) in a place where can safely cut out the portion of the bill pertaining to "Hate Crime" social engineeing and publicly burn it before signing the Defense Funding Authorization.

This bill never dies -it just keeps coming back. This must be what the Founding Fathers meant when noting that “eternal vigilance” is required to safeguard our liberties.

I thought they were putting up money in this bill. Who is refusing to sign the bill?

The DemonRats are trying to force Bush to refuse to sign it, because signing it as written would also mean passing the asinine "Hate Crimes" legislation...

The USA needs the line-item veto!!!

They don’t need a line item veto, all they need are some guts.
As President I would announce.......I want single issue bills sent to me or I will veto them.....period.
They are all guilty, Congress for sending the bills and the President for signing them.
