No, this is going to be a great blessing for the Bars. Since the Smoking Ban in New York, I’ve been able to stay out longer and not feel as bad the next day. So instead of just going out on a Thursday or Friday, I’d be able to go out for an after work drink or two on Monday/Tuesday or Wednesday.

Tell that to my friends in Delaware who lost their jobs after the smoking ban, or the ones that owned bars.......oh wait, a lot of those bars no longer exist.

I’ve yet to see a single bar that considers this a blessing, except for the bars that border municipalities that ban smoking.

They did that in a small town near me, and the town immediately experienced significant loss of business. Meanwhile, the bars right next door, but not in the township, began seeing huge increases in business.

Nanny stateism, at its worst.

If so, then why don’t the bars just ban it on their own?

If a smoking ban was good for business the businesses would impliment it. Let the business owner decide what is best for his business, not a bunch of sissies who do not know how to run a business, except to run the business OUT of business.

Wrong! In virtually every place it has been put into effect, a smoking ban has hurt business in bars, and many have closed. The whining nannies don't come out and frequent the businesses they once supposedly avoided because of smoke. Smoking bans cause a loss of business. They are a violation of property rights of the business owners, and an interference in their ability to conduct a legal business for profit, and are an attempt to ban a legal practice.

If the anti's and Nanny State do-gooders were serious about our health, tobacco would be outlawed completely. that will never happen, because there's too much money in it's continued use. The Nanny State whiners are lying through their teeth when they claim their actions are about public health.

“No, this is going to be a great blessing for the Bars.”

Here’s an idea; rather than supporting statist control over private property, why not just simply support establishments that share your view on smoking?

I know, radical concepts, free market and private property rights and all.

(obligatory smoking-thread disclaimer: I do not smoke. I formerly smoked but that was over 7 years ago).

Well isn't that special. Your rights are all that count! Never fear this will come back to bite you in the butt when the strike is against something legal that you do.

Not to mention save on the dry cleaning bills.

Almost all the restaurants in my town have gone smoke free and have noticed an increase in business. It’s a delight.

This will not stop with draconian smoking bans - get ready for the Big “D” Draconian Bans.
http://www.startribune.com/opinion/commentary/12132066.html

Quote:”Minnesota’s antismoking ordinance allows people to go to bars and restaurants and avoid smoke, because tobacco smoke is a proven killer. Yet because we still allow recreational wood burning in the city, where homes are close together on small lots, it has become a serious livability problem. All citizens are forced to breathe outdoor air that smells of smoke in many neighborhoods, night and day, in all seasons.”
~snip~
Quote:”Wood smoke comprises fine particulates, many of which are carcinogenic, such as benzene, toluene, formaldehyde and polyaromatic hydrocarbons. It is far more concentrated than cigarette smoke and travels much farther, spreading soot and fine particulates directly into our air and our lungs. It also invades our water and food supply with persistent organic compounds that do not break down but remain for years, causing a host of health problems in frogs, bluegills and mammals — including humans.”

Are you ready for this Nomad?

Gabz, thanks for the ping

I'm shaking from laughing. Let me get this straight: You were staying out of establishments which allowed smoking because you were what...concerned for your health? And now you're pleased as punch because you can go out and drink more?

You are soooooo on the wrong forum, dear! Thanks for the chuckle

I know I am very late to the party, but do you fully understand what you just said? Either you are calling these private business owners ignorant of their own market or you are begging for the state to ensure that you don’t have to take the risk to start a bar that caters to like minded individuals. Who is infringing on your ability to open a smoke free venue or to convince a property owner to cater to those who would appreciate a smoke free environment?

So, please confirm it to us. Do you think private business people are just plain stupid or are you just lazy?
