Omaha Mall a Gun-Free Zone
John Lott
Posted on 12/6/2007, 5:29:41 PM by szweig
Just heard from John Lott, on the Dennis Prager radio show, that the Omaha shooting took place at a gun-free mall. Signs forbidding guns are posted at all the mall entrances. Lott points out that this fact is NOT being reported in the press. The same thing occurred in the Salt Lake City shooting a while back. Curious...SSZ

Talk about misleading press. And Omahans Do have concealed carry - just not at posted places, like this mall.

This thread has just added to the FreeRepublic "bang list" (firearms interest list) by adding the keyword "banglist".
Any time a firearms-related thread is created on FreeRepublic, please be sure to add the "banglist" keyword to it so that interested FReepers don't miss it. Just a suggestion.

Is this due to legislation or company policy though? I don’t know of a single mall anywhere that allows guns to be carried inside it, even where there are no laws forbidding such.

Thanks. I was unaware of this...SSZ

Some localities allow businesses to post themselves as ‘no guns allowed’. Funny how these murders tend to occur in these areas almost exclusively...SSZ

This whole unpleasantness could have been avoided if the gun-prohibition signs had a notation at the bottom stating "Especially if you are suicidal and want to become famous. And we really mean it."

The malls in NH don’t have any postings prohibiting guns. Even so, as long as it’s legal, I don’t know how they could enforce it.
To: szweig
If the shooter had known he was violating the law by taking guns into the mall he probably would have gone elsewhere to commit murder./sarc
Gun Free Zone = Target Rich Environment
To: szweig
Malls and businesses are not gun-free zones because their owners are necessarily anti-gun. they are gun-free because of a certain federal agency MANDATES it --
Gun Control - OSHA's covert role

Interesting, although where there are no laws, the most they could do is order them to leave the mall. There is no way they can be charged in such.

Just like I thought this morning. Another zone for criminals to shoot up the sheeple.

Just heard over the air that the security force at the mall are unarmed. Too bad some armed citizen wasn’t on hand to take the mutt out earlier.

They need to change that. Even if they don’t allow the general public to be armed (per company policy - not legislation), guards need to be.
