Just heard from John Lott, on the Dennis Prager radio show, that the Omaha shooting took place at a gun-free mall. Signs forbidding guns are posted at all the mall entrances. Lott points out that this fact is NOT being reported in the press. The same thing occurred in the Salt Lake City shooting a while back. Curious...SSZ
Thanks.
Joe I think just sends out pings on very important articles and things that many interested may have missed due to time of posting.
Now the gun-controller’s will try to steal the guns from everyone who DIDN’T do this shooting!
That is a fallacy. OSHA covers employee workplace safety and not customer policies. It is the businesses themselves who say yea or nay to customer gun carrying.
None of the malls around here forbid concealed carry, and they do have the legal authority to do so. I think one did right when concealed carry became law, but took the signs down later after they received a lot of complaints and a considerable number of people took their business elsewhere.
He heard someone say that it was a gun free zone, so he killed himself.
“In Texas, a business has to post signs outside its premises stating that guns are banned. If there aren’t any signs, it can be assumed that one has the right to carry a concealed weapon inside.”
I remember when the Texas concealed carry law first went into effect, and busnisses posting new ‘No Guns’ signs were not uncommon. Whether or not to ban was entirely up to the business. I refused to do business with any shop that had one, and I made a point of asking for the Manager to tell them why.
I let them know that they had lost my business because of their policy. Those individuals now carrying had undergone an extensive background check, had passed a safety course, and statistically tended to be among the most law-abiding in society.
I must not have been the only one, because many of the signs came down after a month or two.
If you were going to go shoot a bunch of innocent people, would you choose a place posted as “gun free”, or one where the victims are more likely to be armed?

“The mall I patronize has no such nonsense posted and Id be willing to bet I wasnt the only shopper with a little friend behind his belt last evening. It isnt paranoia - this sort of thing draws copycats.”
Neither does my mall...I’m glad I live in Texas.
Shopping in Texas:

i’m going to start carrying again when i go shopping. too many copy-cats out there. god help anyone who tries to shoot up my christmas shopping!
No malls in Austin, Texas prohibit concealed carry. One did for awhile, way back in the beginning of concealed carry, but wised up and took down the signs.
To obey a sign that disarms you and provides no armed security for you is insanity.
thanks
Not yesterday...
Its not surprising...
I went and checked the laws in Nebraska, and they pretty much say anyone can post any kind of signage, there is no standard the state requires, to prohibit and make even the licensed carrying of firearms for lawful purposes illegal and prosecutable...
So much for Utopia...
I imagine this could be a real tinderbox of a subject next time the Nebraska legislature gets together...
I cannot recall any mass shooting NOT in a ‘gun free zone’. Survivors should sue the hell out of any politician who was involved in the decision to make them targets without the ability to defend themselves.
Really.
I work in the industry and most are actually owned by liberals who hate guns and the liability. If the guards were armed, the selection process would have to be more stringent;no longer could the security company issue a uniform and a radio, along with 8 HOURS training, to basically any warm body that tests free of illegal drugs.
