Executive Order: Closing of Executive Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government on Monday, December 24, 2007

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1. All executive branch departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed and their employees excused from duty on Monday, December 24, 2007, the day before Christmas Day, except as provided in section 2 below.

Sec. 2. Since this only affects the executive branch, I guess Congress will keep on working until 5pm on Christmas Eve.

Seriously though, does this effect the Post Office? Or will the last delivery day be 12/22?

Why not open the boarders for the holidays? Oh, that won’t be necessary as they never close? Never mind.

Uptight again, eh?
It’s been done before. When I was in the military and Christmas came on Tuesday, we got the Monday off. Or maybe it was Thursday and we got Friday off. In any case, Reagan was the president and we know how horrible he was. How much do you suppose will get done anyway.
I was already planning on taking it off anyway. And I don’t even work for the government.

The boarders will have to fend for themselves. I’m not going to feed them.

for reasons of national security or defense or other public need. Seems like this should be the requirement for staying open ANY DAY.

I am a small business owner and farmer (no subsidies, thank you) and my wife is a retail florist. Granted, Christmas is busy but with funerals and other occasions, we rarely get a day off. I’m talking 24/7/365. I’m sure most other small businesses are in the same boat. What else other than small business is keeping this economy chugging along? Is it the government? Manufacturing? BANKS? Entertainment? Housing? No. They're either non-existent or broke.

I liked Reagan, but it was him that gave us (some of us) another day off - MLK Day.

I wish the President could have put a provision in there that forced the congress to work on the 24th.

Well, I am a federal employee, but certainly not one of the chosen ones/fat ass hogs with an outrageous salary. In fact, if I worked in the private sector I'd be making a hell of a lot more than I am now.

I'm glad for the day off--but if he hadn't granted it I would have taken it off, or at least half a day anyway. My husband is a defense contractor...and will have to take leave since his office will be closed.

Not always. The Feds I work with (I am a contractor) get a lot of work done when the boss isn’t there!
