China blocks toxic US potato chipsArticle from:

From correspondents in Beijing

CHINA has stopped the import of a batch of barbecue-flavoured Pringles potato chips from the US because they contained a carcinogenic additive.

But a China-based Procter & Gamble spokesman blamed the Chinese importer and said the shipment had nothing to do with the US consumer goods giant.

China has stepped up quality checks on domestic producers after a series of global scandals involving substandard food and drug exports in recent months, but has also named foreign companies that it says have failed its own quality standards.

Inspectors in July stopped a 95kg batch of BBQ-flavoured Pringles for containing potassium bromate, a flour-enhancing additive, according to a notice on the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, China's quality watchdog.

LOL...you beat me to it.

I have eaten them before, but I suspect they are about as good for you as eating the styrofoam peanuts in shipping boxes.

In fact, Pringles do taste much like styrofoam peanuts.

The way I see it, if you’re going to kill yourself eating junk food, you might as well eat junk food that tastes good.

Agreed.

I'd eat the Pringles containers. Plenty of good cellulose and fiber. But the pringles themselves? Yeccch!

hmmm... Where was “China’s quality watchdog” when the toxic toys, toothpaste, etc. were exported to America?

China thought they were Paint Chips and wondered why there was no lead.

They probably blocked this shipment because the potassium bromate is manufactured in China! THEY know what it really is.

As my former business partner used to say, "they're chemically one step away from being motor oil".....

Pringles are a brand of potato snacks produced by Procter & Gamble

Aren't they in the cleaning products industry? Oh man.

Ain’t that the truth!

Pringles are nasty. I hate any reconstituted potato product, including Tater Tots.

Onion rings also.
