This world is upside down and backwards if ya ask me.
“I cannot for the life of me understand why Fred Thompson polls so low and Duncan Hunter isn’t even on the chart!
This world is upside down and backwards if ya ask me.”
I hear that. I think Fred’s problem is that he’s not looked to good on stage (sad but true) and he’s done nothing except come up with boring, very good, positions on things. In other words, too much substance and not enough flash. It’s _really_ sad that in today’s Presidential campaigns substance doesn’t cut it.
Hunter has a somewhat similar problem. While he’s good on substance, he doesn’t seem to really excite people. Plus, he’s “just” a congressman.
This world is upside down and backwards if ya ask me.
I can't figure it out either. Like Kasey Kasem once said, "Ponderous man, ponderous!"
People want to support a winner. That's why national polls before Iowa, NH and SC are meaningless. Everyone supports the flavor of the day, which usually changes once the primaries begin. For example, John Kerry won NH by 13 points after being down by double digits two weeks prior. This is wide open.
Just speculation, but CNN/FOX started reporting Rooty's "history" with playing games with the money to cover for his games with his latest "cheat on the wife" hobby about two weeks ago.
At the same time they started blowing a few puff pieces about the huckster. Presto, Rooty is out, Huckabee is in.
They did the same thing to Fred about mid November with the "entered late, too old, he's sick, no fire" etc etc bs which hung on for weeks. By then the damage is done. DBM is doing a pretty good job of fragmenting the pubies.
I suspect that by primary time the regular pubie voting base will be totally confused. Fred and Duncan BETTER WAKE UP! If they do not team up and attack this propaganda it will get some liberal "republican" nominated.
We will wind up with a one term Republican President and Hillary will make a comeback and win in 2012.
He has run a lousy campaign. If he had rallied social conservatives behind him from the start, he'd be where Huckabee is now.
Southern and western governors and Vice Presidents get elected. Truman, Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush.
Senators and congresscritters and northern governors don’t. Dewey, Stevenson, Goldwater, Humphrey, McCarthy, Ford, Mondale, Dukakis, Dole, Gore, Kerry.
JFK is the sole exception to this, and his actual election is rather dubious based on results in IL and TX.
No shock that Huckabee polls well, and Thompson, Romney, Hunter, etc. don’t.
Not to worry. The numbers will be there as soon as Fred starts campaigning ;-)
Hunter hasn’t got the money to push his case. Unfortuante as his political views are the best in my view.
Thompson just hasn’t caught fire with the public. Maybe things will chane but the trend doesn’t look good.
Huckabee is a very effective speaker and presents a conservative face on most issues - the only weakspot being illegal invaders and he is apparently ameliorating his position on that subject.
Giuliani has problems with emerging skeletons.
Ron Paul is probably drawing any Republican who opposes the war in Iraq. His domestic views are conservative enough, but those people who are unhappy with the Iraqi war should re-assess their sentiments in light of recent events, and consider that Ron Paul, although he claims not to be an isolationist, is totally out of toouch with reality with respect to the Islamic world.
A Huckabee/Romney ticket might be the way to go.
The GOOD news is Hillary is going down like a lead weight and Obama the “newbie” is beating her.
Or, for that matter, why McCain is polling in double digits.
