Seriously why can’t Fred get out their and make a national speech. Romney did a great job. Duncan is my number one choice, but FRed would be ok. He seriously needs to do something. FREDHEADS are huge on FR and should get together for a strategy session.

I agree. Fred should give several major speeches on conservatism and federalism, and exactly why he's the best candidate in the race. Many folks would watch and listen with serious intent. It would hearken back to days of Ronald Reagan`s substantive policy speeches and his plan for the future agenda of America. Right now outside of Fred, no one has offered concrete policy inititives in this race.

Romney's speech yesterday was frivolous and designed to offset the Hucksters rise in Iowa.

Most conservatives, I believe, agree (in spirit) with your assessment of the situation. We want the rock-ribbed conservative principals on which Hunter stands.

Most, however, do not see Hunter as having the ....(charisma?, zing?, likability?, whatever word you choose) .... necessary to win not only the GOP nomination, but the General Election in Nov.08)

I'm sorry. That's just the way it is, perception or not.

Same goes for Thompson, who would make a fabulous uncle at a family Thanksgiving dinner, but doesn't appear to have the drive and ooomph needed to out-maneuver and WIN the general election in Nov.08.

Say what you want about Romney, but he is currently promoting good... make that GREAT... conservative values and issues, regardless of whether you think he flipped on this or that.

Lastly, I think it is GOOD that some Democrats and/or 'moderates' do NOT view Romney as a dogmatic intractable conservative --- because then they would not vote for him.

And everyone knows it will take support from that mushy middle to win the Presidency, whether from the Republican side or Democratic side.

Romney is the BEST chance we have of winning. Of that I am certain.

I also believe he WILL govern from the conservative side, unlike GWB who has governed from Teddy Kennedy's bathroom.
