Elias: Candidates' claim on illegal immigrants false (attack on Hunter)
Ventura County Star ^ | 12/7/07 | Thomas D. Elias

Posted on 12/07/2007 8:01:43 PM PST by Pinkbell

There are plenty of reasons why illegal immigration is one of the hottest issues of this or any political season.

There is the quiet effort of the Bush administration to lower many barriers for farmworkers and other unskilled laborers because large farms and factories (read: Bush campaign donors) fear labor shortages. There is the possibility that illegal-immigrant students might be allowed some path toward citizenship and even breaks on tuition in return for their academic achievements.

There is the constant dispute over whether illegals cost California and other states more for the schooling, healthcare and other public services they use than they pay in sales taxes, gasoline taxes, income taxes and other levies.

Added barf would be to look at this comment after the article:

"Thanks Elias for providing a commonsensical argument in contrast to emotioally driven hysteria. GOP leaders like Tancredo know they preach to a large number of citizens who have a Klu Klux Klan background or are, at the very least, white supremacists. No amount of logic is going to affect the way they think or the way they vote. It is terrbily sad that we have politicians who take advantage of that fact and are willing to spread fabricated facts to motivate ignorant people. Tancredo and Elton Gallegly never mention the 800 or so billions of dolars that enter our covvers in Social Security donations withheld from the checks of illegal alien workers or a greater amount than that withheld by the IRS from their checks and the amounts donated in Unemployment Insurance. These GOP hatemongers are all the same as their leader George Bully Bush who cant' even lie straigt.

>>>Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the son of immigrant workers: “We are not here because we want to stay in Mexico. We’re here because we don’t want to be part of Mexico.”

[Duncan Hunter] The other thing is, I think the politicians in Mexico City like the open border because it is a pressure release valve for them. If they don’t take care of their people if they don’t provide economic opportunity, and they don’t, than instead of their voters throwing them out of office they want people to vote with their feet and just leave the country. And that is what they do. They vote with their feet and leave the country and come to the United States. I think there is nothing wrong with letting that pressure build up and result in a changed political system that hopefully results in freedom for the people rather than have them vote with their feet and come to the United States and do another Amnesty.

Would like to see the proof of the commenter. If they are illegal they have NO social security number unless which has happened they have used a stolen number with fake ids. So where would the tax returns be or the coffers to social security.
That poster who commented to the article is in dire need of spell check.

It's possible Hunter referred to the contested 1996 Orange County congressional election in which Democrat Loretta Sanchez ousted longtime Republican Rep. Robert (B-1 Bob) Dornan by a margin of fewer than 1,000 votes.

Dornan contested that result, claiming thousands of illegal immigrants voted against him. But 14 months of investigations concluded that there may have been some illegals voting in that election, but even if so, there were nowhere near enough to change the result.

Mr. Elias is either being sloppy with this information or disingenuous. To quote from a November 3, 2007 article at Closedcafeteria.com "A 1997 Congressional investigation found that 4,023 illegal voters possibly cast ballots in a disputed House election in California." Illegal alien DL and voter fraud. Mr. Elias considerably understated the number of illegals voting.

The thing is, liberals are only tolerant with those whom they agree. If they disagree with you, then no tolerance for you. All you have to do is tell them you are a conservative Christian, and look out!

Duncan Hunter makes an excellent point. There are some here that do want a better life, and they figure it would be easier to come here than fight for change at home. In some cases, however, they don't want to be a part of America either. They want to bring Mexico here. This is obvious by refusal to assimilate by becoming a legal citizen, refusal to obey laws, refusal to learn the language, holding signs telling us to go back to Europe, etc.

Indeed. You ought to leave that comment at the end of the article for Mr. Elias to see it.

Those idiots disgust me. They want “white racists” to go back to europe but manage to ignore the fact that they themselves are at least partly european too.

I wonder how many of those asshats are of “pure” ‘Native American’ ancestry. And perhaps it would be surprising to them that they didn’t originate in America... but invaded from Asia via Alaska thousands of years ago. Shall we tell them to go back to China ?

“..Loretta Sanchez ousted longtime Republican Rep. Robert (B-1 Bob) Dornan by a margin of fewer than 1,000 votes.

The Chairman of the NYS Right-to-Life Party told me that the Republican establishment wouldn’t fight for Dornan, probably because Dornan was a strong fighter for conservative causes.

Dornan was very, very tough, and didn’t care whose toes he stepped on while fighting the good fight.

What a shame that the Republican Party would rather get behind Rockefeller type Republicans than true conservatives.

You can also see that Man50D proved the writer of this article wrong in post 8. Duncan Hunter was right.

And never mind the reality of Mexican immigration, as expressed a couple of years ago by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the son of immigrant workers: "We are not here because we want to stay in Mexico. We're here because we don't want to be part of Mexico."

You could have fooled me, It looks to me like Villaraigosa, and his fellow travelers are doing everything in their power to turn LA into Mexico.
