Commentary ^ | December, 2007 | Arthur Herman

American liberals have promulgated a standard account of our experience in Southeast Asia and its lessons for today. That account is a myth.

Look at what the Soviets did with their warm water port when they got it. They could not afford to make a go of it. The Soviet fleet used the old American facilities but did not maintain things. They eventually had to pack it up and go home after things fell apart for the USSR. Viet Nam then invited the US to again take up residence. The invitation is still open.

Reporters David Halberstam and Neil Sheehan, along with their willing accomplices Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, Jane Fonda, and a host of others richly deserve to ROT IN HELL for what they did and I, for one, hope that is exactly what happens!

Welcome home Bro. It is VITAL that we correct the conventional wisdom about the Vietnam war, as the lying historical revisionists on the anti-war left use it as rationale to refute the nation’s successes by our heroic armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We know the truth, I saw the war with my own two eyes. Toward the end of my tour the NVA in Northern I Corp was doing everything possible to avoid engaging us and our firepower. They took enormous losses. We spent most of our time trying to get them to fight.

Hey look now you’re a full fledged lying bag of crap. I never said we lost on the battlefield, in fact if you bothered to read my exchange with Biguns you’d have found I agreed with everything you said about the war. Of course you were to busy searching for reasons to be angry. There was no tap dance, you misunderstood what I said.

Don’t lie about me. I already know you’re a complete jerk, but I will NOT tolerate you lying about me.

We may think we've heard about Vietnam ad nauseum recently. But this essay, by an expert and specialist historian, is a truly riveting account of how that war has been mythologized by liberals almost beyond recognition. Read about the many involved from John Kerry to Ho Chi Minh to Richard Nixon. AND the perfidious role of the MSM. It also explodes the myth of the alleged dysfunctional and damaged genuine Vietnam veterans.

This is a Very important and spot on correct piece that deserves to be widely disseminated. I will do my part toward that and I hope all who read it here will do the same!

Thanks for a GREAT POST!

“This spectacle was prompted by the pusillanimous withdrawal of Congressional support for the South Vietnamese government in the wake of the Watergate scandal, which particularly undermined this aspect of President Nixon’s foreign policy.”

You know how the Liberals are (were?) always trying to make comparisons between the Vietnam War and the Iraq War? If a democrat or RINO makes it into office in 2008 with the democrat controlled House and Senate - the comparison WILL be fully true. (Win the war, pull out our support, and lose the victory).

I wonder if we hadn’t pulled our support from Vietnam the Soviets would have failed, and would have learned from that experience not to attempt Afghanistan. A path that led to the Taliban in that country and 9/11?

Thank you for your service and your sacrifices.

We own the battles...they own the political war.

We will own history...already do more or less....the domino effect stopped and Vietnam needs our help.
