Sugar coating lDS doesn’t change the fact that it is not Christian. The Bible was rewritten because it was “flawed” according to Mormons. One of those “flaws” was polygamy. Even though the New Testament is CLEAR on one woman for one man for marriage, the founder of this cult insisted on polygamy that is still practiced today by some. Other LDS churches stopped in when the U.S. Supreme Court deemed polygamy UNCHRISTIAN and made it against the law.

The Book of Mormon and the Pearl of Great Covenant are more important than the “flawed” Bible in the Mormon religion. Trying to whitewash these facts is ridiculous.

BTW, people aren’t turning away from Mitt because of his “religion” - they don’t like his LIBERAL leanings and flip-flops. If he wants to make himself into a “victim” because he wants to be a Mormon - so be it! He id NOT addressing the real reasons people don’t want him as their next President. No sympathy for a liberal trying to buy the election here ... don’t want Mitt as my next President.

Merry Christmas to you too. This will not be a debate by me, but an expression of my love for the savior, and what I can only assume to me a belief held by Mitt as well.

Feel free to disagree, I won’t be arguing here, just posting this. Life is too busy and short.

God Bless

I don’t think there’s time now to look for the perfect candidate. What Mitt said about religion satisfied me.

I know Mormonism is off the wall, but I like Mitt Romney compared to the other candidates, and this upcoming election is going to be choosing the least of the evils. That’s probably what most elections have been about.

> ...the U.S. Supreme Court deemed polygamy UNCHRISTIAN and made it against the law.

It did? Gee, I had no idea that the US Supreme Court was authorized to rule on matters of Christian dogma. We at FR would object strenuously if it tried to. Moreover, SCOTUS doesn't make things legal or illegal, it rules on the constitutionality of laws made by the legislative bodies (e.g. Congress). Again, we here at FR are -against- courts legislating from the bench, right?

Instead, I thought that to become a state, Utah had to officially ban polygamy in its state constitution:

...During the 1870s and 1880s, laws were passed to punish polygamists, and in the 1890 Manifesto, the LDS Church banned polygamy. When Utah applied for statehood again, it was accepted. One of the conditions for granting Utah statehood was that a ban on polygamy be written into the state constitution. This was a condition required of other western states that were admitted into the Union later. Statehood was officially granted on January 4, 1896... [from the Wikipedia page on Utah]
Indeed, the SCOTUS ruling on polygamy specifically said it was NOT about religious belief, but only the practice:
... 1879 unanimous Supreme Court Reynolds v. United States decision declared that polygamy was not protected by the Constitution, based on the longstanding legal principle that "laws are made for the government of actions, and while they cannot interfere with mere religious belief and opinions, they may with practices..." [Wikipedia page on polygamy]
It says nothing about SCOTUS deeming polygamy un-Christian.

So, can you provide a link, please, to an official source (e.g. a SCOTUS ruling) that describes how and when "the U.S. Supreme Court deemed polygamy UNCHRISTIAN and made it against the law"? Thanks.

When you don’t know what you are talking about, shut up and read it for yourself, quit listening to haters and your preacher about what we believe. Doing what you are doing makes you look silly.

Well, it's clear for bishops, anyway.

But!  They are so pious about it!

We solemnly testify...

We declare in words of solemnity...

The Bible was rewritten because it was “flawed” according to Mormons.

The Bible was rewritten and recompiled LONG before the LDS church came around. The rewriting and translating of the Bible continues even today. Both of these are true even without the LDS Church being around.

The Bible is also flawed and in error with itself in many cases with looking only at the Bible and without the LDS Church being around.
