That was my first question, too. I wonder if there is enough of it to test and identify it as either human or animal at least? I realize that in the article they mention animal sacrifices, but the author doesn't really make it clear if the blood has been identified as animal blood. I suppose testing like that wouldn't be possible if they don't want to damage the artifacts though...
