British spy chiefs: Iran 'hoodwinked' CIA over nuclear plans

By Tim Shipman in Washington, Philip Sherwell and Carolynne Wheeler

British spy chiefs have grave doubts that Iran has mothballed its nuclear weapons programme, as a US intelligence report claimed last week, and believe the CIA has been hoodwinked by Teheran.

Analysts believe that Iranian staff, knowing their phones were tapped, deliberately gave misinformation

The timing of the CIA report has also provoked fury in the British Government, where officials believe it has undermined efforts to impose tough new sanctions on Iran and made an Israeli attack on its nuclear facilities more likely.

The security services in London want concrete evidence to allay concerns that the Islamic state has fed disinformation to the CIA.

The report used new evidence - including human sources, wireless intercepts and evidence from an Iranian defector - to conclude that Teheran suspended the bomb-making side of its nuclear programme in 2003. But British intelligence is concerned that US spy chiefs were so determined to avoid giving President Bush a reason to go to war - as their reports on Saddam Hussein's weapons programmes did in Iraq - that they got it wrong this time.

Remembering that “Kampf” and “Jihad” are about identical in meaning.

Exactly.I'll bet that if you substitute "believers" for "the Aryan race",Mein Kampf and everything bit of garbage that comes out of Iran's Ministry of Truth would read exactly the same.

Didn’t I read somewhere that Klinton outed the spies in Iran and got over 30 of them killed?

Traitors within.

They should be identified and hung.

The British, The Israelis. Anyone with a brain knows the truth. But here in America, the dangerous idiots prevail.

You don’t even have to substitute for Aryan race-the Persians are the original Aryans, are they not? And Hitler had a direct axis with Teheran, did he not?

Since this is the obvious explanation to anyone whose brain is above room temperature, why did the CIA swallow so easily? (1) they are total imbeciles; (2) they are lib traitors trying to undermine the Bush admin. and clear the way for a nuclear-armed Iran; (3) they are correct and Iran really did stop work on its “military” uranium programs.

I go for (2) since these clowns have some pretence of intelligence, even if it is so often poorly applied. This is a mole program from within our own govt. to change US policy in favor of what the MULLAHS want it to be.

(3) really is a version of (1) or (2) because anyone but a moron or traitor can see that IF there is such a pause it’s only because they’re waiting for their ongoing uranium program to yield enough enriched uranium, and/or they have hidden their REAL warhead programs more deeply, and/or they have outsourced their real warhead programs, and/or they have learned enough about making warheads for nukes that they are confident they can do it very quickly when they need to do so.

Also, of course, as has been said many times their uranium enrichment program is very much a “military” nuclear program, run by the terrorist IRGC for heaven’s sake, so the premise of the NIE is ASININE, that we can talk about Iran shutting down its “military” nuclear programs when the uranium program is known to be going full-bore. That uranium enrichment program has no civilian purpose.

re #3 above, I meant to say military “nuclear” programs (not just uranium-oriented) since of course there can be projects aimed at a plutonium version of nuclear warheads and in fact it is more likely that Iran simply shut down one of those, perhaps to focus solely upon producing uranium bombs or perhaps simply as a blind for the CIA, which has fallen for it completely.

The Brits doing this must be tough as nails and super patriotic to oppose the rest of that liberal country. I wish them the best.

Bush doesn’t have the political capital to attack Iran and a full scale assault on Iran would be foolhardy. The world needs to wake up. We can’t do this on our own because there are limits to American power, despite the fact that our Armed Forces is the best in the world, bar none.

Agreed to that and your other points. Or just fuggedaboutit.

We've got to get friendlies to come along.

Even if Dubya accidentally nudged our Allies into action,
I'll feel better about the future if they "feel the heat and
see the light" about the downsides of letting Iran continue to
be a "loose cannon".

Just so I don’t inadvertently give offense...

When I said “Or just fuggedaboutit.”

That was a comment about what Dubya should do if he can’t get allies
to help out in keeping Iran on the straight-and-narrow of being a
peaceful, civilized regime.

It WAS NOT anything directed at you!

What if we have underestimated the Iranian program? What if like Pakistan we once again erred on the side of political convenience? WHAT WILL WE DO THEN? We must act now in the case of Iran whether we go alone or not as the consequence of inaction spells doom to the entire world. Should we wait we will have no allies, they have infiltrated every Nation and lay in wait for the “Perfect Day”. Should that day come the world as we know it will dissolve into total chaos and Freedom will perish from the face of the earth. I couldn't care less if you believe me or not, they believe and will stop at nothing to make a believer of you.

Me: And I don’t think the attack will be as simple, or as successful, as the last few Israeli anti-nuke raids.

You: Yes it will...for one,and only one, reason. This attack will be nuclear. It will have to be.Israel hasn't a prayer of pulling off a quick, clean attack against Iran using only conventional weapons.

You agree with me by disagreeing, then? 'Cause an Israeli nuclear attack against Iranian nuclear sites might not be something that any sane man could call "simple".
