US minorities don't trust each other

The three main minorities in the United States -- blacks, Hispanics and Asians -- have little trust for each other and hold prejudiced views about Americans of different ethnic origins to their own, a poll showed Wednesday.

"This extraordinary poll reveals some unflattering realities that exist in America today," said Sandy Close, head of new America Media (NAM) which sponsored the poll together with ethnic media groups.

Forty-four percent of Hispanics and 47 percent of Asians are "afraid of African-Americans because they are responsible for most of the crime," the survey of 1,105 adults drawn from the three ethnic groups showed.

More than half of black Americans polled and 46 percent of Hispanics said Asian business owners do not treat them with respect.

And half of African-Americans said Latin American immigrants "are taking jobs, housing and political power away from the black community."

Hispanics and Asians, whose populations are made up mainly of immigrants, were positive about the American dream, saying that those who work hard in the United States reap the rewards of their toil.

In contrast, more than 60 percent of African-Americans dismissed the American dream as not working for them.

All three ethnic groups viewed white Americans in a more favorable light than they did members of another minority.

Sixty-one percent of Hispanics, 54 percent of Asians and 47 percent of African-Americans said they would rather do business with whites than members of the other two groups.

"The poll reaffirms that while race relations between ethnic groups and whites grab the headlines, there are also serious racial problems between minority groups in America," said Sergio Bendixen, an expert on Hispanic and multilingual polling.

"Blacks feel they are left out of the American Dream and are being displaced by newcomers, and each group buys into the negative stereotypes about the other two," he said.

The three minority groups did agree that the United States would be a better place if blacks, Asians and Hispanics held more authoritative positions at universities, in business, media and government.

They also said they believe racial tensions in the United States will ease over the next 10 years.

I could have told you that 40 years ago.

The Irish were VERY hostile toward Poles, Italians, and other southern/eastern European newcomers. See Studs Lonigan (in which the Irish Americans in the novel tell an Italian to get out of their "white man's neighborhood) or ask my grandfather (who had gangs of Irish American kids throw bricks at him as a youth in JC).

Such ethnic rivalries among white folk are just memories. I myself am of Polish/Italian heritage, while other members of my family have married folks of German and Portuguese ancestry.

The “minorities” cannot afford to let “racial tensions” ease.

:
Certainly, nobody had a clearer insight into what these people were up to than did Booker T. Washington who, in 1911, accused self-interested blacks of purposely emphasizing race, in order to get an easy ride for themselves. “There is a class of colored people,” declared Washington, “who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. . . . Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs. . . . There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who don’t want the patient to get well . . . “ And, indeed, 82 years later, the patient has not gotten well, but the booming race business is healthier than ever—now buttressed by a flowering of other “victims” and oppressed groups.

Hey, is it racist of me to notice that Asians are more racist against blacks than most whites are?

Its true, but it would have been more interesting if they had done this more in depth.

When I was in college, I noticed african americans didn't like african immigrants, and vice versa, even the latinos were divieded (seems mexicans hate folks from central america). Asians, well, take a glimpse at the other side of the globe, they didn't leave those beliefs behind.

I just find it ammusing how they lumped the minorities together, without going further.

"In contrast, more than 60 percent of African-Americans dismissed the American dream as not working for them."

The operative work here is "working". Too many of them have been convinced by their "leadership" that no matter what they do, "Da man" won't let them off the plantation.

The sad fact that their own self-proclaimed "leadership", working with the RAT Party, are keeping them enslaved and on the plantation.

I have a friend who is an African immigrant.

He has no use for the AA culture here in America, and fights to keep his son from falling into it.

What the liberal idiots will not accept is that over the last 200 years we are all from somewhere else and each group has its own prejuduces that will stick a lot longer than their attempts at P.C.!...libs make me laugh!

I myself am of Polish/Italian heritage

You should be at my family's house during Thanksgiving when the "Polack/Lit" wars between my brothers-in-law break out over the stuffing ingredients.

It's great entertainment, and no one's filed a lawsuit yet.

Of course, now that a sense of humor's been effectively outlawed it may be just a matter of time.

I'm fully prepared to commit perjury on the witness stand to preserve our American culture, the existence of which has yet to be acknowledged by liberals.

I have got news for them, do the same poll within the Hispanic community, ask the Colombians if they trust the Puerto Ricans, the Puerto Ricans if they trust the Cubans, the Cubans if they trust the Mexicans, the Mexicans if they trust the Guatemalans, the Guatemalans if they trust the Dominicans and on and on.
Ask the African Americans if they trust other Blacks from foreign countries, boy would they be surprised at the answers.

Of course we all know that Boricua are at the bottom of the barrell, as they weren’t even competant enough to start their own country. ;-)

I've found that the African immigrants in my area do not like the native born Af-Ams. They don't hold the same values, they say.

On a related note, the taxis here are (Houston) are operated primarily by African immigrants; If you see one near you pull over immediately and pray. They're nuts when behind the wheel!

My solution? Have the three groups sit down to a dinner of tacos, fried rice and watermelon. Then, best two out of three of thumb war.

You aren’t given these. Work for them if you want them.

Exactly! Funny how nobody knows this (or just not talks about it).

Don't forget to throw the Brazilians into the mix.

EXACTLY. And try asking the Koreans, the Chinese, Japanese, etc. how they feel about each other. Or try grouping black people according to descendants of U.S. plantation slaves, Jamaicans, Haitians, immigrants from Ghana, Nigeria, etc. How do they feel about each other? And why is everyone of European descent placed into one group - “white”?

Following a shooting in my old neighborhood, I still remember one black woman saying, “Why do we have to live next to those crazy Nigerians?” Then there was an African immigrant who bought an abandoned building and fixed it up, after which local crack addicts demolished it again. No brotherly love from him for those guys.

These “studies” are interesting sometimes, but they only compel people (including conservatives) to view other people in terms of their assigned group status.
