Anti-Mormons Attacks Must Stop, FR is Better Than That (Vanity)
December 12 2007 | jveritas

Posted on 12/12/2007 6:27:59 PM PST by jveritas

Dear FRiends

It really pains me to see some of those vicious anti-Mormons attacks we see on Free Republic disguised under the “freedom of speech. Attacking people based on their Mormon faith is really disgusting and it is an insult to this great forum. People who do not like Governor Mitt Romney based on his positions are free to express their opinion as such, but people who attack him because he is a Mormom should be ashamed of themselves and must not be allowed to do so.

I greatly hope that Free Republic members and moderators will get together and help in stopping this anti-Mormon vitriol, this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.

Ah I see. So you even discount my work and time to discover the truth. Since you refuse to answer ANY of the questions I can only assume they are true and the Mormon church is eyeball deep in a deliberate deception intended to inflate their membership numbers and pretend they are more relevant than they are.

Typical diversion tactic. You now have made it easier for me and others to believe these things about Mormons. You had a chance to dispel these "lies" and you blew it.

Here let me make it easy for anyone who wants to find the truth. take you phone book and count how many Mormon churches are listed. Drive by several of them on Sunday morning. Count the cars and multiply by 4. You will find the number to be pitifully small.

Sounds like just about every Mormon I've ever known ~ you seem to have had your own World Wide Church of God moment ~

Most folks in most places in the world adhere to the religious beliefs that seem to serve their needs.

Couple of other Freepers and I have had to constantly remind folks that not all Moslems are nutcases ~ in fact, where they live Islam is "normal" and folks work to make sure it doesn't destroy their lives.

The conflicts arise at the margins and sometimes under certain conditions the results can be horrendous, but that's not where most adherents of most religions are at.

Anti Buddhist? YOu missed that one. We have some Hindus posting here who continue to claim that Buddhism is an unwanted aggressor religion in India that is deserving of scorn (and apparantly other negative outcomes as well).

So, may I ask why you skipped over "anti-Buddhism" ~ are you a Hindu?

Else I fail to understand your "Buddhist bashing by ommission".

Buddism claims it is the only reliable route to oblivion ~ something Christianity seeks to avoid.

So, no Buddhist Heaven ~

So after you answer of course there is a difference in that scenerio, then I ask why is there a difference for those that would not vote for a Mormon?

The LDS church has been a patriotic contributor to all things good and decent in America, unlike the Muslim church, which seeks to tear down America and install a califait (sp?)

Again, if you can't see the difference, you are blinding yourself.

And no, I'm not an LDS member or a Muslim.

But my momma didn't raise me to cover my eyes and reject all those who are not in exact accordance with my conservative Christian (Baptist) faith.

Does that mean I believe the unusual tenants of the LDS church? Not hardly.

Neither do I reject Catholics or Mennonites for THEIR quirky church statutes.

I accept them as Brothers in Christ, and as good and decent Americans.

I am not a Mormon, I am a Greek/Antochian Orthodox.

And if you were running for president would it not be fair game for people to ask just what the heck Greek/Antochian Orthodox people actually believe and what secret rituals you do in private behind closed doors?

Thanks Zakeet, for the history, everything you post is quite true. And more, but I have to get to work to keep food on the table so I can’t do my own document dump.

There are quotes of Smith inciting the Danites, there are the letters from Gentiles describing the Mormon rampage, there’s the Reed Peck description, etc.

It might be useful to review how we got here. This fall Romney was touring the south saying “Vote for Me! I’m a Christian too!”, stupidly, or at least ill advisedly thinking that that would make the people there like him better. The people down there saw it as a challenge. No, you’re not a Christian and here’s why.

This was followed by moaning and hand wringing about anti-Mormon bigotry and a race by the PC-e-or than thou crowd to be the first to brag that a person’s religion means nothing to me. Which is nonsense that people tell pollsters but forget once they’re in the privacy of the voting booth.

As usual the main victim is the language. The word Christian has now become fuzzy and over broad. We will now have to use the modifier Trinitarian when precision is needed to represent what 99.99% of Christians believe.

I think it would be OK to ask if he agreed with the tenets of his faith. I’m a Methodist but I don’t believe in the Methodist belief in “Falling From Grace”. My personal theology is not tied to my church.

Mitt can solve much of this folly by blowing it off. But if Mitt believes that you can baptize dead people by proxy, that is as significant as Huck believing you must be held under water to join his church.

Correct, tacticalogic. In discussions of the religious faith of various candidates, it is fair to discuss those beliefs or behaviors that might affect a candidate’s ability to carry out his role as president.

So far as I know, while the Mormon church has officially announced that blacks are now welcome in their church, I do not believe that they have renounced the teaching of their early leaders that black skin is a result of God’s curse on blacks. (PM, has that been renounced?)

If a person is only telling a Catholic or Mormon the truth about what the gospel preaches, then it’s not an attack. Unfortunately, sometimes folks get a bit overzealous and personally attack people who disagree with them. That’s wrong. Telling the truth of the gospel is not wrong.

You may be correct with the dualism aspect but just confirm wouldn't dualism be a deity which is both good and evil simultaneously or alternately?

There is also a school of thought that reduces religion to true monotheism, a single God of good and evil exists only where the God does not exist. It's similar to believing Hell isn't a nice place because of distance from God, therefore there is no hope or hope of salvation.

I, too, respect the Mormons. They are, as a group, some of the most respectable people on the planet. It’s the doctrine and their view of Jesus that’s not Christian. I believe Christians need to speak the truth but in LOVE. I know some of us get a bit overzealous at times.

Ahhh, I see you pinged the “right” people who were doing most of the attacks.

Why not? Isn't your post directed at them? If you really wanted your words to have an effect, shouldn't you have pinged them yourself?

The people listed in the address bar were called “Jihadists” on another thread.

The mormon calling FReepers jihadists has done so on several occasions, but the posts have been allowed to stand...I'm sure that's OK with jveritas, right? Censor ONLY the ones YOU want censored?

I challenge those on this thread to visit the following links.

Read the threads. Judge for yourself where the name-calling vitriol is coming from....judge WHO DOESN'T WANT THE TRUTH TOLD! Check the source links provided, especially the ones that are replied to with the most rancor. Put aside the knee-jerk PC reaction.

And then, ask yourself, WHY IS A MAN'S ABILITY TO DISCERN NOT TO BE CONSIDERED IN HIS BECOMING POTUS?

You asking political candidates to be a spokesman for a church? That is exactly what they become in the eyes of everyone, when they march down that road. That is a can of worms the candidates regardless of religious belief, should not be opened. Their religious beliefs are a private matter, IMHO, and have really nothing to do with being President of the United States of America. I’m quite sure there is the opposite opinion, this happens to be mine.

It would appear that the "official" response is to simply pretend that it was never the "official" policy of the LDS Church in the first place.

Since it was never the "official" policy of the Church they can get away without apologizing for it or condemning the teachings that led to it.

Pretty slick, huh?
