I saw that article when it was released and was very pleased by it, but he seems to have retreated a bit.

From his campaign website:

And while we don’t know for certain how or why climate change is occurring, it makes sense to take reasonable steps to reduce CO2 emissions without harming our economy.

This is, essentially, the regrettable "precautionary principle".

Anyway, I'm hoping to get a chance to ask him about it this week; we'll see what happens.

" And while we don’t know for certain how or why climate change is occurring, it makes sense to take reasonable steps to reduce CO2 emissions without harming our economy. "
At least he is not taking the extreme approach, and realizes that the economy and the US military might should not be effected by taking these steps.
Here are some key words to defuse your concerns and doubts.

" it makes sense to take ( reasonable steps ) to reduce CO2 emissions ( without harming our economy )."
It seems to me he has done some very reasonable and sensible thinking on this.

That is a perfectly rational answer. The globe is warming, what is in dispute is the cause. As FDT said in his Harvey article, the other planets are warming as well.

If we can reduce CO2 WITHOUT harming the economy (operative idea there) it would be a way to help a little and offset any possible impact we may have down the road. Again anything we can do that won't impact our lifestyle and economy.

Now if he was to support Gore’s toss out the whole culture to save a seal crap...
