[Ron] Paul Raises $6 Million in 24-Hour Effort [December 16, 2007]

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul's supporters raised over $6 million Sunday to boost the 10-term Texas congressman's campaign for the White House.

Called a "Money Bomb," the goal was to raise as much money as possible on the Internet in one day. The campaign's previous fundraiser brought in $4.2 million.

At midnight EST, donations were over $6 million, according to the campaign Web site. Those donations are processed credit card receipts, said Paul campaign spokesman Jesse Benton. Benton said the median donation is about $50 in the fundraiser, which was the idea of Paul supporters who are not officially connected to the campaign.

Trevor Lyman, a Paul supporter who is traveling the country following the Ron Paul blimp, said the date of the fundraiser coincides with the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.

The Ron Paul blimp is an aerial billboard emblazoned on one side with "Who is Ron Paul? Google Ron Paul." The other side reads "Ron Paul Revolution." The blimp, another grass-roots effort, was in Chester, S.C., on Sunday, and organizers hope to get it to New Hampshire before the Jan. 8 primary there.

"Most of these people are for the war becasue they believe 19 Arabs did 9/11."

Okay, SwordofTrutherism, enlighten us: Who did do 9/11, if it wasn't 19 Arabs?

Seeing as how there is a faction on FR who seem to have nothing better to do all day other than bash Paul and his supporters, call them names, and conjure up the most ridiculous, paranoid conspiracy theories about them, it’s no wonder that most Paul supporters wouldn’t feel entirely comfortable on here.

haha....come-on.

When did he say that...1982, when Ron P wore bell-bottoms..in that picture...lol?

You really think a guy like Reagan, whom involved himself in cold-war conflicts outside of America’s borders,...whom built up the military to a great size...and put out a freedom radio throughout communist controlled areas...

Is the same Reagan whom would stand by Ron...NOW, whom doesn’t want us anywhere, and whom gives hostile comments about the ‘military industrial complex’ (as though everything about it is pure evil)....?

Reagan original supported FDR, because he recongnized that our foreign policy can’t be restricted to our borders...and that it comes with deadly consequence to ignore such threats. Ron would do such, and at our peril.

“You mean a decade of prosperity presided over by Republican presidents? I’ll take that any day.”

The 20’s was an era heading toward hell. But I sense the sarcasm....

What segment of our population DESPERATELY wants the patriot act repealed,

People who care about protecting liberty and the constitution. The Patriot Act is unconstitutional, unAmerican, and helped to strip us of even more of our civil liberties.

It boggles my mind how some conservatives can support the Patriot Act, when if the exact same thing would've been put out by Clinton, they'd probably be shouting from the rooftops about how unconstitutional it is.

"What do they do with all this money?"

I did see a blimp on TV with his name on it. In New England, it was just starting to snow.

“I guess you have seen it before since you are a Reagan expert? Just watch what you can stand.”

I’m not a huge fan of Reagan to tell you the truth. I think he picked a horrendous Vp, loose judicial picks, and a terrible amnesty agreement. He didn’t do enough to lead a movement to substain his view....like Jefferson did (through philosophical organization).

He wasn’t a bad president, but I don’t find him as special as others (here do).

You think that Reagan misunderstood Ron Paul's views? Or did Ron Paul's views change in the past 25 years? Maybe in the Republican Party that's changed. Actually, Ron Paul was one of only three or four congressman who endorsed Reagan in his '76 run over the Rockefeller wing, so maybe the GOP has long had only a reluctant connection to true conservativism.

In any case, I see more of LBJ and Wilson in the Bush foreign policy than I see of Reagan and Goldwater. Did Reagan attack the USSR or did he let it collapse economically. As for building our military, Paul is actually for that. Having a strong defense doesn't mean policing the world. In fact, policing the world actually weakens our defense, as well as our economy. It's not a viable foreign policy. Yeah, Reagan supported FDR and Paul would have supported him, since he went to war only with nations that declared war on us and after CONGRESS had then declared war on them!

the ‘military industrial complex’

A term coined by Eisenhower, another Republican president.

I think it’s about time for the FEC to conduct a thorough investigation of Paulie’s donations.

*** put out by Clinton, they’d probably be shouting from the rooftops about how unconstitutional it is.***

True, very true.

Much of the P/A was drafted during the Clinton Administration after the Oklahoma City bombing. His fading popularity in Congress kept it from being presented. Besides, he had other important issues (women) on his mind.

The Paulistas must be getting great help from those Soros lists and organizers.... no way are there that many loony people who sincerely support Ron Paul, so look for the Soros-bots who are trying to split the right to enable Shrillary or Obama to worm their way into the WH.
