If I were Lott, I wouldn't have chanced looking back at DC as I walked away...

he announced his resignation like 2 days before his brother-in-law (a near-billionaire trial lawyer who was in on the beginning of the tobacco extortion) was indicted on federal charges of attempting to bribe a judge. There is persistent speculation in the jackson legal community that the telephone wiretapping of scruggs caught lott having some conversation which he should not have.
I don’t think 2 days is a coincidence.

Good catch. I missed that. I was pointing out the fact that a "professional" writer screwed it up.
If you typed it, well, apologies for being the typing police :)

Good riddance. Worst RINO we had since Chaffee.

Gov. Haley Barbour will appoint a successor to serve until a special election is held next year. The timing of the special election is in dispute. Barbour, a Republican, said he plans to set it for Nov. 4, but state Attorney General Jim Hood, a Democrat, issued a nonbinding opinion this week that the election must be held within 100 days of Lott's departure.
BS Alert!

Good riddance.
This spineless wonder is the main reason my country disappeared on Feb. 12, 1999.
Someone must have had the goods on him.

More Lott on Immigration:
“Im sure senators on both sides of the aisle are being pounded by these talk-radio people who dont even know whats in the bill. To the New York Times, he had offered: Talk radio is running America. We have to deal with that problem.
Good riddance.

It is time for new Ideas and new motivation.
I believe we should have term limits. After too long in DC our politicians seem to get a sense of entitlement to their jobs and begin delving into additional compensation (corruption).
Except for Ronald Reagan, I’ve never been sad to see a long serving politician leave office.

That’s scary from a Bible-Belt Republican. I guess when one lives in D.C. for 35 years—and goes all over the planet on junkets—one evolves a more cosmopolitan outlook, yet can still talk like a sorghum farmer.

As I understand it, he will run for Thad’s seat.
Cochran will run again, and retire when Haley’s term is up.

pure speculation...
Lott wanted to retire before Katrina.
He decided to stay on for a while until he felt comfortable that he could leave.
He did a great service to MS by staying on.

That was an unfortunate position for him to take.
Undoubtedly, his constituents feel the same.
