Time for McD to exit Congress
Seattle P I ^ | December 18, 2007 9:08 p.m. PT | JOEL CONNELLY

SNIP. . . . .... A possible arrangement: McDermott's legal bills are paid off. Something gets named after him. And a new posting, possibly meaningful, allows the globetrotting congressman to pursue his interests in HIV/AIDS and South Asia.

Discretion is vital. McDermott's "amen corner" will entertain no criticism of our quixotic man of principle in Congress. And Seattle needs re-education on potential benefits of having an effective liberal doing its business in Washington, D.C.

McDermott is a voice. At times, it is courageous. Often it irritates. The voice is usually oblivious to words that will change minds or win allies.

He is currently in a bad patch even with Democrats in control of Congress. . . .. SNIP

The congressman-for-life will find himself owing as much as $800,000 in legal fees from his nine-year battle with Republican Rep. John Boehner.

It was good to see Boehner get relentless in his pursuit of that sick scumbag McDermott.

The thing is, we’re better off with having the most shrill, ugly, and obnoxious voices espousing hard-left rodent causes in Congress rather than replacing them with quiet, low-profile people that vote the same way in districts that will never elect Conservative Republicans.

Quite right, and well said! Your point, while entirely accurate, is sufficiently subtle that it (seems, at least) that it has eluded the more vigourous partisan types on the pleasantly Constitutional side of the political spectrum.

Happy Christmas to you and your family, and FReegards!

Thank you. I was thinking, to illustrate the point, while many FReepers were cheering the loss of the lunatic Cynthia McKinney in the ‘06 Dem primary, we lost one of the highest-profile faces of liberalism. Most people (FReepers included) would be hard-pressed to name her rodent vanquisher, and whose voting record is virtually indistinguishable from his predecessor’s. He’s just a nicer and more pleasant face on an ugly ideology and awful voting record. Everybody knows McKinney. Who in the Sam Hill has heard of Hank Johnson ?

Excellent point! We should at least send her some money to help her green card bid!

(shrug) Not I.

So, who the devil **is** Hank Johnson? Or would I prefer not knowing?

It would obviously help the GOP Presidential candidate having as many leftist factions split into different parties. McKinney running as a Green, Kucinich and Mike Bloomberg running on other Indy Leftist tickets would harm Hillary or Obama (the only downside is that with several leftists running, it would gin up support for Dem candidates in Congress).

Well, this is McKinney's vanquisher, Hank Johnson. Pleasant-looking man, but same odious far-left voting record.

You will have to enlighten me here....how would several lefties running for president, help democrats obtain house or senate seats?

Well, if it’s just a Democrat vs. a Republican, you’re mostly just going to have those folks largely voting for their own parties downballot. Add more 3rd party candidates for President on the left that generally won’t have many other candidates for their parties to vote for downballot and you’ll tend to add more % to the Democrat column for those Congressional and other races. You see, because the left may end up having more than just Hillary to vote for, it may result in more folks voting that might not ordinarily (if they weren’t happy with the major party Presidential candidates). My worry is that if you have such an added turnout on the left and we put up a weak liberal RINO (with no viable added Conservative 3rd party option), we’re going to be demolished in Congressional and other statewide races.

If that’s a bit confusing, let me give you an example using some numbers...

Let’s say it’s Fred Thompson vs. Hillary in a marginal district:

Fred (R) gets 155,000 votes and Hillary (D) gets 145,000. With no other candidates, Fred wins. The (R) and (D) candidates for Congress may generally get the same numbers, depending on the incumbent, perhaps a bit more if it’s an R, a bit less if a D.

Let’s say it’s Fred, Hillary, McKinney & Bloomberg in the same district:

Fred (R) gets, say, 150,000 votes, but Hillary (D) gets 135,000, Bloomberg (I) gets 20,000, Cynthia (G) gets 5,000. Now Fred has won with a bare majority, but the left combined has gotten 160,000 votes and there are now 10,000 more voters. Those added 10,000 voters will then likely go to the Democrat candidates downballot, so if you have a vulnerable Democrat incumbent in said Congressional district, they win by a narrow margin. If you have a vulnerable GOP incumbent, they may narrowly lose (even as Fred wins).

Then you have the worst scenario. A RINO nominee, and the same Dem and leftist candidates and perhaps a 3rd party protest candidate or the Libertarian or Constitution candidate gets protest votes or just overall depletes the GOP vote:

Huckster (R) gets 120,000 votes, Hillary (D) gets 140,000, Bloomberg (I) gets 20,000, Unnamed Constitution Party candidate gets 20,000 and Cynthia (G) gets 5,000. So now you have Hillary winning the district (and the Presidency) with a plurality, but the left has an advantage of about 165,000 to only 140,000 for the right. Absolute disaster for dislodging Dem incumbents downballot and vulnerable GOP incumbents will be toast.

That’s what we face.

I could not agree with you more regarding this idiot. When McD returned from Iraq a few years ago, I sent him an e-mail suggesting the McD should be arrested for sedition. The verbiage in the e-mail response was not printable on a public medium.

I put it down to the typical leftist methods: if you have no tenable position, throw insults.
